Hi all,

Posting something here after a long time. Coming to KVM one simply cannot forget "Iruvar Ullam". What songs!

1. Kannedhire Thondrinaal - TMS (Great song)

2. En Azhudhai - TMS

3. Paravaigal palavidam - TMS

4. Nadhi Enge Pogiradhu - TMS-PS

5. Idhaya veenai - PS (what a song!)

6. Azhaghu Sirikkindradhu - PS-TMS

7. Kanne Kanne kalangadhe - PS

8. Budhi Sigamani petra pillai - ALR-LRE

And one cannot forget his "thaikku pin tharam", Makkalai Petra Magarasi,
Thai Sollai Thattathe, Vannakkili, Thai Pirandhal vazhi pirakkum, kumudam etc.

When MSV was ruling the roost, Mama was not far behind which shows his class.

'nilavodu vaan mugil vilaiyaadudhu' from Raja Raja Cholan (Old) is a mellifluous number.

I feel his songs for several MGR movies like 'Thai sollaith thattathe' (siriththuch chiriththu, kaattukkulle thiruvizha, pattuch chelai kaatraada) and 'thaayaik kaaththa Thanayan,' (moodith thirandha imaiyirandum, kattith thangam vettiyeduththu, kaatu raanik kottaiyile), 'Needhikkup pin paasam' (maanallavoo kangal thandhadhu, idi idichchu mazhai pozhinju, vaanga vaanga gopal ayya, akkam pakkam paarkkadhe) and 'Thrthtiruvizha' (siththaadai kattiyirukkum sittu, mazhai muththu muththup pandhalittu) etc. are very melodious and have stood the test of time.

Who can forget 'endha voor enravane' from Kattu Roja?

In my opinion, Gangaik karaith thottam is his masterpiece.

Recently Gangai Amaran mentioned in Jaya TV's Raagamaaligaa that immediately after Panju Arunachalam handed over the lyrics , 'En siriththay ennaip paarththu' (written by Kannadasan, of course), KVM composed the song instantly and sang the whole song including the charanam, as he read the lyrics from the sheet.

A great composer, indeed!

Hi,

Further to my earlier posting on KVM, who can forget his album "Annai Illam" starring Sivaji-Devika-Muthuraman.

1. Madi meedu talai vaithu vidiyum varai thoonguvom is one of the finest PS-TMS duets.

2. Ennidandu Pathinaru vayadu is another top class solo from TMS

3. And the peppy TMS solo Nadaya ithu nadaya oru naadagam andro nadukkudu reminds one of a similar MGR no in En Kadamai - Hello Miss Hello Miss situation wise.

These three songs in this movie are long-stading ones and the MGR-Savitri starrer Vettaikaran is another fine example of 'mama's class.

1. Unnai Arindal unnai arindal is among TMS's chart-busting solos for MGR

2. The superbly rendered "velli nila mutrathile vilakkeriya vilakkeriya" is another excellent solo by TMS

3. "Manjal Mugame varuga, mangala vilakke varuga" is a class TMS-PS duet

KVM had a different musical style to MSV's having honed his talent under the under-rated and sadly forgotted SV Venkatraman (of Meera fame).

Yes Mr. VK, I stand corrected. the film was Rajarajan, not Rajaraja Sozhan. There are hundreds of songs. We can't list them all. After writing my post, I remembered other films like Kumudham, Kula Magal Raadhai, Padikkaatha Methai (I think, this has been mentioned by someone already), Kan Kanda Dheyvam (IR has adapted 'kannukkutti kannukkutti from this film for 'Thottaththile Patththi katti' for Velaikkaaran,!), Paavai Vilakku, Mahakavi Kaalidass, Vietnaam Veedu etc.

Today, in Vijay TV's Super Singer program, Mano described the Gana song 'Vaalai meenukkum Vilaangu meenukkum Kalyaanam' as internationally popular. The tune for this song was provided by KVM in Vietnam Veedu, the song being, 'visiladichchan kunjugalla, kunjugalaa'

Dear Rengaswami Sir and friends,
K.V. Mahadevan is a pioneer in Indian cinema music. You can write millions of postings about his compositions. He claimed respect from all the music directors in India and he was the mentor for our MM.
I have started a separate blog for him at the following link:
http://kvmahadevan.blogspot.com/
To start with I have given the list of films composed by him. Pls go through.

And the song visiladichan kunchugala is from the film "Maanavan" and mds were Shankar Ganesh.

Raghavendran

Dear Sri Raghavendran,

Thanks for correcting me. I got the song 'my lady cut body' from Vietnam Veedu confused with Visiladichchaan Kunjugalaa.

It is nice of you to have created a blog for KVM. I am proud to have become the first follower of your blog!

Dear Mr. Jeev,

The raaga.com site for which you have given the link shows the composer for this film as Shankar Ganesh.

I think R.Sundararajan's second film for which KVM was the MD was 'thoonggaatha kann indru ondru.) I have no idea of the film 'andha raaththirikku saatchi ilaai,' though.

Dear Mr. Rengaswami,

KVM composed music for Andha Rathirikku satchi Illai. Sunderrajan's
first 4 films:

Payanangal Mudivathillai - 26.02.1982 - IR
Andha Rathirikku satchi Illai - 15.10.1982 - KVM
Thoonggaatha Kann Indru Ondru - 4.2.1983 - KVM
Saranalayam - 30.9.1983 - MSV

Please listen to the song "Mani Osaiyum" (100% KVM style) from the same film.

Regards,

Jeev

Dear friends,
I just came across this thread and almost immediately related this to today's reference to KVM by our MM in Endrum MSV. For quite long, Gangai Amaran has been telling lots of media shows about the song 'Mayakkum Maalai' by AMR and Jikki. He keeps saying that this was composed by KVM, and that the information appears in the title of the movie. But, I have verified that it was not appearing in the title. Incidentally, today MM mentioned about this. He said that this was KVM's tune which was used in this film, eventhough it was not considered for another MGR's film earlier. He mentioned that KVM agreed to this, but requested not to use his name. And, the guru bhakti of our MM was to be seen to be understood. He is humility personified.
A beautiful song, and the beauty is even more enjoyable not just for the tune or singing, but because of the heart of our MM!
Regards,
Sai Saravanan
