http://msvtimes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1946&highlight=unakku+mattum

http://www.jointscene.com/php/play.php?songid_list=13569

http://www.jointscene.com/php/play.php?songid_list=24751

Dear Sir,
I am listening to the Vani Jairam's song from the link you have provided. Thanks, and it was a revival of old memories of listening to these songs in radio when we were young. Your identification of these instances are apt, many of those created in a subtle manner-probably not intending to transform the song into a heavy dance number- and keep it beautiful and suit the right mood in the scene.

We must remember that out MM knows dance. Intuitively, we can feel this in many songs and the kind of beats he has used, leave alone the actual dance songs. The rhythm is always there in his songs, they are always lively for this reason. However, many would not know that he has learnt dance too! Recently, he mentioned a few lines in the Star Vijay programme about his learning of dance under Vazhuvoor Ramaih Pillai. Of course, a glimpse of that we could see for ourselves when we saw him sway to the tunes on the stage...!!
Great writing sir!

Dear Sai Saravnan,
I was wondering all along that how this music mastero excels in dance numbers also. Even a person with no formal knowledge of the jatis of dance can see the beauty of the arrangements he achieves in dance numbers. Madhavip pon mayilaal is one classic example though there are several others like Aaadaaadha manamum undo, vetkamaayirukkadhadi etc. After listening to him mentioning that he learnt dance from Vazhuvur Ramiah Pillai, I understood. It is enough if our master is just initiated. He will self-master the field and become vituoso. That explains how we see so many subtle beauties in his various songs.
Incidentally, I made the mistake of typing the title of my post (Natanam aadinnar (kaattinaar)) in Tamil. That's why it is showing some symbols.

Dear Mr. Rengaswamy,
This man born for music has also learnt dance for a brief period from the grand Bharathanatyam dance teacher 'Vazhuvoor Ramaiah Pillai'. The brief period is between 6 months to one year. That is sufficient for him to understand and pick the soul of the dancing art to be applied in music.

The same logic goes for acting also as he tried his luck only for acting which was the reason that he was able to phrase the tunes as if he himself is acting and expressing the music for that act.

Regards,

Dear Friends,
Remember his music direction live during the recording of 'Avalukkenna'? Notice his magic hands dance...'Dance' and 'beats' emanated from his hand movements while he composed. His occasional tapping on the harmonium, gestures during direction, and gentle body movements were enough, I suppose, to create the beats in the minds of the pecussionists. Then the music and beats flowed and followed.

in the early days chandra babu at a particular shoot msv commented that the dance movements of his had to go well with the music composed and chandra babu argued with msv on this .

just to prove that he could have done it better master danced in the sets for a while and proved that waht he said was right and jp chandra babu realised ( not a easy task though)that he was not an ordinary man

that relationship strengthened till babu breathed his last and his body when brought on the road it stopped for a while at santhome in front of his house as mark of his respect .

i learnt that it was his wish .like his tune his relationship has no colour ,quality or educational level .

Dear Friends,
I have been watching our friends discussing the brisk orchestration by MSV and Mr.Sai Saravanan has referred to the inimitable 'conduction' of orchestral scores in 'avaLukkenna' of "Server Sundaram".There is scope to believe the possibility of rehearsals as the sequence was filmed.Interestingly, AVM Chettiar was particular that the process of recording must be shown and that MSV must conduct the proceedings. Other than the trip to Russia, MSV appears in full suit for the purpose of 'filming' only in this song. The message is, AVM had watched MSV the composer for years and he knew for sure that on matters of exercising control over the multi-layer orchestra MSV has been a supreme commander with immaculate control and uncontaminated enthusiasm keeping every one on toes. On several occasions of public performance of live replay of songs in his busy days, I have watched with awe and delight, the way MSV used to signal to each player, himself at the harmonium. His signalling his player[s] has just no parallel, for. among the TF composers he is one who keeps thorough grip over every performer including the singers. I used to wonder as to how he perfectly recalls the intricate notes that he composed years ago. His penchant for precision and zeal for seamless union of orchestral pieces and their subjugation to the lyric and voice are all matters of object lesson. How elegantly he inserts moments of cessation through a song is a matter for deeper study, while his signalling seizure or reopening after a predetermined time lapse speaks volumes about his calibre. I have read on several occasions that all his orchestra members vouch in unison that MSV determines the time frame over which some instruments shall be played for BG scores, just by watching the sequence once. Also he signals the start and closure of instrument clusters by sheer mental judgment without using any stop watch.[ This observation by orchestra members is silent proof that many MDs rely on gadgets for fixing re-recording spans]. No wonder people genuinely hail him "MELLISAI MANNAR".
Thanks for the opportunity.
Warm regards Prof.K.Raman, Madurai.

Dear Professor,
Very nicely explained! We can witness glimpses of such moments during the shows of 'Endrum MSV' nowadays. You have verily picturised those moments. I am mesmerised by the magical hand movements and sways, and I know and feel that some new musical strain is taking its birth then and there!!
