Dear Friends,
It has been more than delightful, recalling the grandeur of TF approaches way back in 1964. Would it be fitting to call it deviant or better still defiant is a dilemma by itself. We are talking of times, when financing a project was a real tough proposition and money was the least accessible commodity. Therefore, investments on 'not-so-reliable' propositions was a matter of riskiest of risks and people had to rely on such items that cannot fail with the audience. I mean, the best of available talent on all domains of movie-making like music, cinematography, editing, Direction and field publicity of the right kind were the real support in pushing a movie to its total acceptibility.

Thus, "kAdhalikka nEramillai" is case in point.

It was a well-planned gamble, carefully timed to hit the market when the movies of the time were rich by storyline, heavy budget, high decibel emotions of melodrama. With none of these elements, "kn" was a run- away superhit that survived on the strength of presentation of lighter side of life.
Naturally its strength was pleasant picturisation in captivating colour though it was the first colour venture by Sridhar- Vincent -Sundaram combo. Honestly, some of the shots in the movie stay respectably fresh and hithrto unsurpassed for Camera placements in Marina, Aazhiyar locales especially for the way camera tracks the movement of luxury cars.
Much of the mood associated with those visuals have been heightened by VR's BGM scores. BGM of the movie alone could feed an episode or two for writing. But, my limitations on the subject of analyzing music severely hamper the genuine play of emotions on the theme. Yet, nothing bars me from acknowledging that THE SONGS AND BGM in 'kn" GAVE THE ALL IMPORTANT mesmerism OF GLUING THE AUDIENCE TO THE SCREEN BY A STATE OF ECSTASY, NOT MANAGEABLE BY ANY OTHER BAIT, EXCEPT THE MUSIC OF THE KIND THAT V-R, LIBERALLY DONATED TO THE AUDIENCE.
Quite a feast of rich flavour and taste took the audience by surprise because, except the banner of Chitraalaya nothing was ever known of the movie. This is what I meant when I said publicity of the right kind.
Certainly the movie managed to trap all the audience by the rich imagination, grand music right from the title card and opening of the movie with a song without an iota of time to guess anything of the faint storyline.

But, a weak story can also make history, is a moral lesson stating that treatment matters the most. It was a royal treatment for the audience with the forage in light-veined comedy that flew unabated in the most unexpected play of words and body language. A separate piece is desirable to suggest how keen the crew has been in weaving the plot to the stature of a mega hit of Silver jubilee bonanza in 1964.

That several imitations sprang up on subsequent movies stand proof of trend-setting in 'kn'. Others please add your perceptions and help our mission of some deep study.
Warm regards Prof.K.Raman Madurai
