Dear Friends,
In an effort of the kind that we are in, cross-currents of emotion impelled by nostalgic sweeps are both inevitable and enjoyable. Enjoyable is a certification of the utility or relevance of the poet to a defined occasion. What renders Kavi arasu the awe is the unhindered play of words -apparenrly simple but absolutely articulate as to be the best possible. The awe keeps balooning to mega dimensions because on most occasions the words have come down in a torrent punctuated by grandeur and purity of thought. So to say, KA had thoroughly imbibed the scriptures for all their innate message and brought the concept to the fore - perhaps in the simplest of words. One can keep on expressing delight about Kavi Arasu; but citations can reveal it better. As of now we are concentrating on "karNan" and aptly KA has revealed his prowess that not merely matches the occasion but narrates the incidence in all its glory and fittingly KaNNadAsan looks the poetic KarNan.
Though all the entire songsof this movie are treasures to cherish, in a small reference as this, enough if we pick out the salient couplets that electrify the mood of the song.
'1000 karangaL neetti'
A solemn reference to SunGod, where
'DhooraththE neruppai vaiththu sAraththai tharuvoi pOtri
thooyavar idhayam pOla thulangidum oLiyE pOtri'
touches the core reference with all reverence.
'iravum nilavum'
'nAdagam muzhuvadhum nadakkattumE'
adhil nAnAmum konjam irukkattume' right away pegs the song at its purpose.
'mahArAjan ulagai ALalam'
'mahArAjan ulagai ALaLaM'
indha mahA rANI avanai ALuvAL' - the very pallavi determines the functional dominance in poetic form
'pOi vA magaLE pOi vA'
The second line of the pallavi
'kaNNil punnagai sumandhu pOi vA'
tenders the right piece of advice to the 'expectant' lady character.
'ennuyir thOzhi'
'araN manai arivAn ariyaNai arivAn'
'andhappuram ondru iruppadhai ariyAn' in the later charaNam summarizes the plight of longing [viraga thApam] while seeking an emissary help through a 'thOzhi'.
'kaNgal engE'
'pAlinil irundhE nei pirakkum ,kannA
paramboruL kandE uyir pirakkum
veeraththil irundhE kulam pirakkum. idhil
mEl endrum keezh endrum engirukkum? '
'tharubavan illayO karNa nee
dharmaththin thAyE kalangAdhE' are lines that comfort the mind in distress.
'manjal mugam niram mARi' was a pretty long mumber as the 'seemandha pAdal'
where
'kEtpArkellam karNan koduththirundhAn
kELAmal avanukku ivaL koduththAL' is crisp narration
also
'karNan thandha piLLai endrAl kArmEgam allavA?
edhir kAlaththil indha dEsaththil avan nanmai seivAn allavA?'
as a prophetic suggestion of 'karNanesque' qualities of the to be born.
Not that KA needs any introduction, but it provides us the opportunity to view the grandeur of his skills as lyricist who never let an occasion to slip by while still matching the story line.
Our friends can add their perceptions as well.
