SONGS OF "e v p"
Dear Friends,
Lyrics for the movie were done by Valee, who had by then deeply entrenched himself with MGR camp, though he worked for every other banner on call.
Quite interesting were the numbers in "evp", as all of them were in thorough consonance with the movie situation unlike what we see now. Valee pitched these numbers in rich traditions of grammar as much as with the story line.
A broad glimpse tells us of the quality of work.
1. 'kaNgalum kAvadi sindhAgattum' The song gives a beautiful hint of the storyline though intended as dance number.
2. 'nAn mandhOppil'- a song that literally possessed song /music lovers, while it turned a superhit even on first hearing.
4.'kumarippeNNin uLLaththilE'
Another gentle number that touched scales of romance conveying intent without inviting contempt from keen listeners.
5. 'nAn AaNai ittAl'
A grand number that forecast the hero's frame of mind and the deal in store for the errant. [I am reminded of what Mr. N.Ramakrishnan had brilliantly laid out in our forum on 'the tone of MSV's bongo' for this song. All new comers please read that piece in our site ].
6.'malarakku thendral pagaiyAnAl'
A rare piece, where 2 women render this piece in isolation though each under the grip of pathos. Quite a poetic piece with parallels and similies typical to the era of the film culture then.
7.'peN pOnAl'
A novel style of a song that touched a new border with its carefully aligned short words that were never short of connotations, revealing the calibre of Valee while seeking a status for him among the front liners on this craft.
These are the numbers that come to my mind. Pardon me if anything is missing.
This is just a prelude to deeply study VR for their wizardry in this movie.
Warm regards. Prof.K.R. Madurai. _________________ Prof. K. Raman

Professor,
If I'm not mistaken, two songs in EVP - "Kangalum kavadi" and "Malarukku thenral pagaiyanal" - were penned by Alangudi Somu or Avinasi Mani, not by Vaalee. Friends can please throw some light on this. _________________ Srini |

Dear Friends,
I tender profuse apologies for misquoting Valee's name in place of Alangudi Somu in respect of songs in 'evp'. I am not merely a poor analyst also I am equally bereft of sound memory. Honestly, I never meant to rob Alangudi of any credits, though an error is capable of abrogation, however inadvertent it is . Sorry for this.
DEAR MR.RAGASUDHA,
ENTRY 3 IS THERE THOUGH NOT APTLY ENTERED, due to a major hiccup in our internet circuit for near a week. Hope, I have cleared the two mess- ups in my postings.
Warm regards Prof.K.R Madurai. _________________ Prof. K. Raman
