Dear Friends,
We look at the following numbers under duets II.

'rOja malarE rAja kumAri' ''veeraththirumagan'' PBS PS Anandan , Sachu

Despite half a century of its existence, the song stays intact fresh and brimming with nuances.Pt.Visweshwaran called this song Chiranjeevi among film songs. A very early song that revealed the pro s and con s of romance between incomparable strata of society -'kAdhalil kalandhu nAttai izhandhavar palarundu' as much as 'padaiium kudaiyum sevagarum ondrAi iNaium kAdhalar munnE kAnal neer pOl marayadhO'
Quite a complex piece accommodating swift orchestral pieces to back up the steady flow of voices. INSERTION OF LAUGHTER AND CHORUS WAS A DELIGHT BESIDES AN EXCELLENT play of Bongo to a captivating impact.

'iravukkum malarukkum jAdhi illai' ''nenjam marappadhillai' PBS SJ Kalyana kumar Devika
People who talk of rhythm as if it was a suddeninvention must listen to the steady flow of rhythm and sticking to its scale even when the tune shifts pace. Another romantic exuberance 'en thoLgaLilum oru kiLi undu' and it was a treat to watch the artistes bring out fleeting expressions. A marvel of a song befitting its era of narration and orchestration stood by the antiquity of the story even as it answered all the elegance neede in a movie song.

'enna pArvai' ''kAdhalika nEramillai'' KJJ PS Muthuraman Kanchana

An exceedingly fine song that set in motion the mood for the hilarious movie rich in every component. As the song opens, the play of strings was enthralling with a romantic utterance of 'enna pArvai' by PS. KD had penned a lyric that was refreshing as the visuals of Marina. With this song MSV brought off a new genre of instrumental supremacy in TF orchestration.

'nAn unnai chErndha selvam' ''kalaikkoil'' PBS PS Muthuraman Chandrakantha

Another of KD's poetic interpretation of romantic feel 'nam kAdhal uLLm kalaikkoil iru kaNgaL koilukku vAsal'
elevating the pair to epic scale referring to 'sri Raman nenjil nindra seethai
'malar kaNNan thEdikkonda RAdhai' and so on.
MSV has employed scintillating nuances of singing and a thoroughly gripping orchestration suggesting the rowing of boat besides brisk bongo beats in closing stages.Another heavenly experience if we close our eyes and listen to the classic melody.

'oruvan kAdhalan' ''veNNir AAdai'' PBS PS Srikath Nirmala

A 'far ahead of its times' composition
It had such a melodious singing with peppy orchestration and a totally new style of octave shifts that unless aptly backed by the orchestral support, it would have been a dismal show. But, listen to this song to realize how MSV has brought life to the words that are just prosaic; they assume poetic class by the uncommon pattern of singing and absolutely novel style of playing the strings and the bongo almost in two separate paces and time without causing ripple to the listener. Brilliant.

kAdhal kAdhal endru pEsa' ''uththaravindri uLE vA'' PS ML Srikanth
Ravichandran Kanchana

What a sophisticated style of composing with the male just adding alaps at right places in that voice with a strong resemblance to SPB's but still managing fresh looks. KD has his penchant terms 'kaNNa', BrindhAvanam' 'neerAda neer sellum yamuna nadhi' the pun at 'neer' [water /you] and manna varuga mAlai tharuga' winding up aa ah ah ah. MSV once again revealed class by using a very unorthodox strategy of singing, alap, brief strumming of strings and the apt play of flute and percussion creating a product of total novelty.
In this small sample we see so much variety - venerable indeed.
Please add your observations . We would continue the discussion further.

Warm regards K.Raman Camp: Navi Mumbai
