Dear Friends,
I dedicate this landmark posting[1000th] of mine to share the creditable features of the man variously known as Satagopan, Gopu, Chitralaya Gopu and so on. That a friendship could last a lifetime is what the association between Gopu and Sridhar underscores.
It also brings to the fore that relationships last if there is mutual respect for the abilities of each other. Both G and Sridhar had their schooling in St.Joseph's -Chengalpattu and this bondage [70 years] is intact though CV S has completed his mortal phase. Sensing the value of Gopu, CVS roped him into his fold, prevailing on him to give up a salaried job in an export-import firm. Precisely this job description was used to prop up Thangavelu when a wife's relative OF HIS seeks to know what THANGAVELU WAS DOING [kalyANa parisu]. Since then Gopu's dialogues have won success unabated for decades. Perhaps CVS made the best use of him and later the industry responded pretty well elevating him to the status of a writer cum Director.
Gopu's comedy pieces have always been of the highest gentlemanly order though packed with interjects of timely wit.
In Kadhalikka neramillai Ravichandran asks Rajasri as to whose sister she dropped in the causeway even as she was crying Transistor. Also when Muthuraman insists on his muscle power [despite age]saying 'oru irumba kudunga', Nagesh quips 'idhukku munnAla circus company la irundheengaLA?'
In kalaikoil, when asked , Jayanthi tells her name 'ROSY' and Nagesh responds 'it is a name usual for pet dogs.
In all movies that he participated Mr.Gopu has given his best.
His admiration for MSV is boundless. This man proudly recalls his association with CVS, MSV, NAGESH VEENNIRA AADAI MOORTHY , CV Rajendran and all others.

It is a tribute to his character , rich in gratitude.
I deem it my pleasure to recall those wonderful days of TF where Gopu has planted his stamp of class in comedy that was built on healthy expressions. May God bless this Octogenarian -a life of health happiness and peace so that he can guide the younger generation.

Thanks for the opportunity

Warm regards K.Raman Madurai

Dear Prof,

Many thanks for your landmark posting on Chitarlaya Gopu. Iam not sure as to how many movies he had directed. Laugh riot kasethan kadavaluda directed by gopu sir is etched in my memory forever.

Thengai gava a sterling performance.one can always see Muthuraman performing well in Cvs & Kbs movie and it is to the credit of Gopu sir that Muthuraman gave a good performance.

indru vandha endha mayakkam, the great thullal number cannot be forgotton by music lovers. Gopu sir is very well known as a writer and not many know him as a director. Versatile Gopu sirs contirbution for Tfm will be remembered forever

Dear Mr.V.S
Mr.Gopu has directed 27 movies and has contributed to 60 films as a writer. As regards Muthuraman's good acting, the truth is-- he brings out what the movie maker wants.

Besides, Muthuraman's entry as a cognizable entity in movies was with Nenjil ore aalayam -a project with which Gopu was intimate. Also, between CVS and Gopu, Muthuraman was referred to as Mudhaliar for his very strong resemblance to a Chengalpattu-based mudhaliar whom CVS and Gopu have known from their early days.

There are so many other instances of interest ; but space is a constraint.Hope it answers some of your inquisitive needs.
Warm regards K.Raman Madurai.
