Dear Sir,
You have reminded us of a lovely piece of melody, short and sweet. Your analysis is so apt, it reminds us of another dimension..."kodi asaindadum kaatru vandadaa,.." When I listened to this song in the theatre (I saw this movie as a school boy to only listen to MM's music and perhaps, for some Rajinikanth's style), the visuals were not so interesting me. But my mind was active beyond my control. The impact of the music was more powerful than the scene. I could relive that today in your description!

Dear Mr. Sai Saravanan,
Yes, you have been hijacked by the melodious treatment of the song "Kodi asaindhadhum" from 'pArthAl pasi theerum'.
Your nostalgia has travelled deep down your memory lane, having been kindled by NY M's analysis of 'ninaithAlE inikkum' number. What I mean is , your emotions have travelled beyond times to identify Rajanikanth's [as yet unknown as a cine actor then] style in the mega star Sivaji Ganesan. This precisely is the 'possessive' power unleashed by MSV and no wonder you gracefully got hijacked to fore call [ a coinage to suggest the opposite of recall] Rajanikanth after watching Sivaji Ganesan who epitomized the screen character in 'pArthAl pasi theerum'. Hope you admit what I infer.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Warm regards K.Raman Madurai.

http://msvtimes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1863&highlight=msv+keeps+distance

http://youtu.be/AbBDDTzAYA0

CHACHU CHAACHOO............

TOP CLASS.

Dear All,

NOTE: ALL CAPITALS DENOTE SHRI. MSV ONLY...

The analysis of MSV's music from a raaga angle when it is proved to the world not only by the CREATOR himself but by many beyond any doubt that HIS music literally originated from an abstract (for those in denial due to various compulsions, please view my video uploads of Vaaliban Sutrum Ulagam composing session in you tube).

That HE was at no time thinking of a particular raaga whenever or where ever HE sat down to compose is also a world known fact that needs no more mention. Unless the story line warranted a usage of a raaga (to which HE always ensured absolute justification), HE didn't care much for that either. HIS music not only transcended the raaga limitations but all musical grammar that we can think of as all of HIS music was created only to suit the characters, situations & given lyrical limitations coupled with HIS avalanche of imaginations. Even the smallest of a note or a deafening "silence" would communicate an enormous amount of expressions... to which HE holds sole proprietary till this moment... all other claims by others are not only condemnable but highly contestable also ...

A song that typically defies musical logic of all forms is "I will sing for you" from the movie, Manitharul Maanikkam. I believe this song is set on the basis of Raaga - Karahara Priya but defies everything in it according to the elite. Some of our forum members even call this as an "atrocious karahara priya", riot & what not? I am sure most of HIS creations will defy logic & this is precisely why we became addicts for life!!! We found something new every time we listened to it and this is an experience we have never derived from anything before in our lives. No wonder veteran G.S. Mani quoted, MSV is not the usual musician the industry is used to but an undisputed / unchallenged CREATOR par excellence and RANJAGA RAJA...How true???

One of the leading classical singers of today has openly admitted that the so called listeners of classical music are generally formed from an elite, snobbish (verbatim I have used his words) group of people....

MSV's music is definitely not for anyone to decipher into classical notes but, those who listen to HIM will be forced to become life long addicts. In other words, you don't have to be a genius to enjoy him, just an ordinary listener...Try being the later category, you'll enjoy HIM even better. If one tries to deviate from this very reality, not only they would have erred gravely but would be the losers of the very essence of melody HE is known for even after a whopping 7 decades.

Needless to say HIS music doesn't require this kind of an analysis to get propagated. Let our great work not get reduced to feeding a very few raaga hungry stomachs when the world is hugely made of melody hungry tummies!!!

CHEERS

MSV IS MUSIC!!!

Hi Murali,

The views that I have expressed were purely mine & for anyone to accept it or reject it will be the individual's prerogative. I have not written that with any intentions to provoke anybody. Like how you have understood MSV's music in a classical analytical way, I have understood the same in a lay man's way. My intention is not to stop anyone from writing, but to express my way of enjoying HIS music. Like how you are entitled to your opinions / views, the same amount is applicable to me also. I really don't find any offence in that.

Last but not the least, the elite view HIS music from the angle of a sa ri ga, whereas we, the lay men view the same as a ra si ga...

Hope the technical savvy's take it in the right spirits...... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Dear Mr. Vaidy,

Fair reply. I find offence from your writing which I am quoting below.

You cannot be an advocate cum Judge for the method of how to propagate the values of Shri Shri MSV.

And by the way MSV is not your sole property

Bravo Murali,

MSV isn't your property either. That being the case, why analyse HIS music on a theory on which HE HIMSELF has not scored music. HIS creations are born out of a mere spontaneity than a concept thought on a raaga as perceived by many including you of late. On a one to one level when you tried to repeatedly impose your opinion on a raaga based creativity with MSV, do you remember what he told you?

This is precisely why a person like me who hasn't learnt classical music but can enjoy HIS music beyond the levels of even a classically literate come into being. So, in other words the very analysis of HIS music based on something you perceive need not be accepted by large chunk of listeners who are like me. You must also understand here that these are the people who got hooked onto HIS music for the rest of their lives more than the ones who took time to analyse & understand HIS music.

Repeating again that my posting was in no way to offend your writing and you need not bring in MSV as the subject of dispute as that is totally unwarranted & won't deserve any reply also...

Dear Vaidy,
I have never claimed any close attachment with Shri Shri MSV. But again I am pointing out that what the opinions I have expressed in this forum are my perceptions and it can be or cannot be accepted by others.

But to pass a judgement of how to propagate the values of his creations by you is too far fetched.

Regarding the one to one meeting with Shri MSV I think you have got the facts completely wrong as I have never asked him or try to impose any raga opinion. That meeting in which I tried to get information from MSV was his music for East Asian Music and how he could draw some amazing consistency in maintaining that style of music which had some connections with our old Tamil Pannisai for which MSV told that he did not know anything about that.

I am concluding the subject by saying that if at all you may disagree with my perception, and you may freely express, that I am willing to accept. But to pass a judgement on a what to and what not to write is beyond your
scope.

I did not post this straight away but only after seeking clarification and confirming from you that now I am constrained to write this post.

I add the point that msvtimes.com is also not your personal property either.

N Y Murali

Dear Murali,

My knowledge of music of any kind is zero. But I have been fascinated by MSV's music right from my childhood even before realizing that there is a composer behind every song, let alone knowing the name of the composer.

After my joining msvtimes and reading the analysis of MSV's music by you and others endowed with the knowledge about swaraas, chords etc, my enjoyment has been very much enhanced. Now I am able to understand the nuances of at least some songs and how these nuances contribute to the delight content of the music. It is true that one doesn't need to understand the structure of a song to enjoy it but understanding it may not be an impediment to one's enjoyment.

Judging from the response of the audience for 'naathamennum kovililey' and 'muththuk kulikka vaareegalaa' to your analysis of certain finer aspects of the song, I can say that many other people will also have their enjoyment enhanced by reading / listening to such analysis.

The way I understand your writings, you are not suggesting that MSV had the same kind of thinking as your analysis shows but are only pointing out how things fall in place so beautifully just by the creator's understanding of the situation and the text of the lyrics.
