This topic is a serious, yet interesting one - which calls for musicians, film historians to sort out the issue & know the TRUTH.

This is like "ARYAN INVASION" theory. So many arguments, counter-arguments, extreme opinions etc.

To address this & to find some truth, let me volunteer, something small from my end.

I will closely listen to TKR compositions (infact I have NEVER listened to TKR ONLY compositions).

The strong first step is this: (could be the ONLY step, eventually)

FEELING ORIENTED MUSICALLY TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

Why I say this?

If it is just technical analysis - many music directors score well.

But ONLY MSV's (and A R Rahman's) style is feeling oriented.

Technical, Orchestral & Rhythmic aspects are part of it.... But the "FEEL" aspect is what is makes a composer unique.

MSV stands tall here.

"FEEL" is the aesthetics aspect.

Again Aesthetic applies to different places differently. Example in a Carnatic Music Aesthetics is different. Ina Hindustani Music - it is different. In a Mridangam Thani Avardhanam - Aesthetics is different. In a TAMIL TRADITIONAL FOLK, it is different. So whether it is "OPERA" or "OPPAREE" aesthetics applies differently. Very Happy

So as a first step I (one) should define/set the boundaries - where the analysis is going to be performed.

Clearly define the parameters for terms like "QUALITY", "AESTHETICS", "SUCCESS", "ACCEPTANCE" etc and do the analysis.

So this will be one of my first ANALYSIS that I will take-up. Because looks like the issue is becoming a burning one & lot of people are seeking to know the fact & truth.

But a word of caution: TRUTH/FACT can be BITTER TOO.

So I or anyone cannot pass any judgement without thoroughly analyzing T.K.Ramamoorthy's music.

But the indicators are pointing towards MSV being the complete musician in all aspects, it is worth an analysis TKR's songs as well.

So please give me sometime - I first need to collect TKR songs, then listen and then get a feel for his music and only then we can make any sort of conclusion.

But again, I must iterate that I'm not an expert here (or) I'm not passing any judgement over history.

Mine is a PURE "TECHNICAL ANALYSIS" with listener orientation.

The only qualification I know I have is: "I'm a GOOD LISTENER"

With this I will venture to this topic and seek what can be revealed, the best I can.

Note: On & Off I have listened to a couple of TKR songs - they completely lacked in melody, orchestration and above all continuity...

I will be more specific shortly.....

Hi Ram,

Bravo.....No one here wishes to demean the role of TKR ever. Having said this many times, why on the other hand people do not accept the fact that it was MSV, the soul & solo performer all the way. This fact has been established beyond anybody's doubt by none other than Late TKR himself. That it took many long years for TKR to come up openly with such a big revelation is something that happened too belated due to "professional compulsion" is anybody's guess.

TKR - being one of the finest violinists produced by India, a man with thorough knowledge of Carnatic music couldn't establish as a true Creator like MSV as he really lacked two of the great ingredients that naturally occured to MSV - melody & orchestration. One need not be an enlightened person in music or a whizkid of a sort to come to this conclusion. Mere listening to TKR's tunes will educate you on what is a melody and a malady!!! Though TKR had done a very few films after his split from MSV, never did he make a lasting impact. But, on the contrary, MSV rose like a phoenix from the ashes to pour out everlasting melodies. Notably, the split never even affected him in anyway considering the emotional trip he would have undergone. The creativity of MSV and the spontaneous improvisations of tunes and the adaptation of the lyrical & the emotional content in composing a song are virtually MSV's sole & soul domain and no one can even attempt to come near that. Those who tried failed miserably is a world known fact. We, as listeners for so many years have understood where the music of MSV differs from others and it is no surprise that we literally get drowned in the avalanche of melodies unleashed by this Master Creator.

I have also tried my best to listen to others (without any prejudice honestly) but nothing has melted my heart like MSV's music. This is not to boast under any circumstances but no one can take away the reality and my liberty to think aloud!!!

EAST OR WEST, NORTH OR SOUTH.......MSV IS THE ULTIMATE THAT HAPPENED TO INDIAN FILM MUSIC!!!

CHEERS

MS
V IS MUSIC!!!
