Dear all, There are lots and lots of creative works done by our Master MSV - the first of its kind - the first of such things in Tamil film songs and then it would have been followed by other music directors or they could not have done even, which we all know. But for the sake of people who are not aware of such history and for the sake of Tamil music lovers it becomes the onus of this site to start registering each and every such thing. I humbly requet each and every one of you to contribute in this portion. I know lot many would have been written under different headings. But any pioneering activity undertaken by our Master, please bring under this heading.

Regards from,
P. Sankar.

"Ninaithaley Innikkum" - there is a pretty long song in this film with just the same two words repeatedly sung by SP.B and Janaki with very fine and melodious interludes. I think this is the first of its kind in Tamil films to be composed with the title name of the film.

In the duet song by PBS and PS - Naan Paadiya Paadal Mannavan Kettan Padayudane Vandaan -from Vaazhkai Vaazhvadharke (Music VR) the pallavi is not repeated at all in the rest of the song. This is unique.

GRamanathan has done similarly, with just one repeat of the pallavi, in the melodius duet by TMS and P Bhanumati 'Maasila Nilave Nam Kaadalai Magizhvodu" in 'Ambigapathy'.

MSV did likewise later in his career in Sivanda Mann song 'Oru Raaja Raaniyidam'. In this song another pioneering effort is that the prelude and interludes don't get repeated.

And in the TMS song 'Ulagam Piranthathu Enakkaga' from Paasam, VR have given a different prelude and dissimilar interludes to each stanza. A great effort.

Dear mr Sankar,
This is a vital thread that should bring out the uniqueness and creativity of this and only maestro. You were absolutely right when you point out that MSV starts some thing new and other MDs follow the suit. This applies to even now famous MDs.

I join Sankar in requesting the fellow msvians to contribute to this thread.

From my side I would like to start the first one.

This is slightly technical. If we have carefully noticed the rhythm section of MSVs song, we glean the following. The main melody will be going on a partcular beat, say 4-4. The percussion will be going with another beat say 6-8 or waltz. To exemplify, take the song "minminyai kaNmaNiyai...." by TMS and LRE from kaNNan en kAdhalan. The main melody is waltz. whereas the percussion(bongo) n will be going on 4-4.

MSV has done this in many songs.

நமது நண்பர் P.சங்கர் அவர்கள் துவக்கிய அருமையான தலைப்பு. "எம்.எஸ்.வி பாடல்களின் புதுமைகள்". முடிவே இல்லாமல் செல்லக்கூடிய தலைப்பு;

Dear Ram,
You are absolutely right. There has been innumerable off beat rhytms in MSV's compositions.

Another illustrative example is the song "adho andha paravai pOla..." from "Ayirathil oruvan" the drums takes one "maathirai" after charanam begins, with the words" kAttru nammai adimaiyendru..."

Talking about mixing rhytms and song timings, another example "jagame mandhiram..." sung by MSV in "ninaithAle inikkum"

You mentioned "nenjam marapadhillai". Vow! what timeless songs.I wonder whether MSV himself can repeat it. The humming and opening BGM of the title song just transports you to a different world. No MD Can weave this magic - taking the listeners to the place he has internalised. All thge songs are excellent. Unfortunately, many of them hard to come by. For example, the song by TMS,"kAdu malai veedu kanda mAttupoNNe.." and "yaaradi neeradi...sevvai minnum chithira thangam vA vA (not sure of the words)" by TMS+PS

Dear All,
Honestly, unique contributions from MSV are countless. To set the ball rolling, I am reminded of the title song for the all-time great movie"PAASA MALAR". Though identified as the title song the song is played during the Intermission in the movie. MSV has rendered this song himself in a style that is not given to ordinary singers. The song has been penned by KAVI ARASU and has no separate Pallavi since the crux of the theme is said in about 8 lines or soin a single run. MSV scintilates through the whole piece. What a cotrolled voice ! Politely begins as "Anbu malar, Aasai malar" narrating the qualities of affection. MSV has packed emotions by varying the pitch of delivery in each line. He squeezes our hearts while rapidly reaching the crescendo of thepitch holding it to the most effective dimension. I do not remember any serious instrumental back-up.The melody king has shown all skills of singing in this short piece that reverberates in the soul of the listener. One thing I wish to humbly state is -any soul stirring song obviously comes from the soul of the composer- lest it should be a soul less piece.
Thank you music lovers.

Dear Ramki sir

As soon as reading your post, I heared the song in my headphone again.

No words to say about the compossing and mixing various instruments in it, espscially the accordian piece.

An admirable analysis you have done.

Onnu mattum unmai....

Avar uruvaakkiya paadalkal ovvondrum ippo ketkumbothu adhisayamaaga thondrugirathu.
