Exclusive thread on Sri.T.K.Ramamoorthy and his songs!
MSV has a great regard for his "Musical Partner", "Mellisai Mannar" - T.K.Ramamoorthy. And so is "MSVTimes.com". The name "Viswanathan-Ramamoorthy" created a great impact on the Tamil Film Music Listeners and this "Musical Duo" has an amazing success story!
After they both parted, both of these composers had a completely different career graph and this section will only be for compositions of Sri.T.K.Ramamoorthy!
(Please bring out interesting and positive posts under this thread and no unwanted comparisons (or) controversies here! This is a request!)
Am sure our Master "MSV" will be extremely delighted to see a dedicated section for Sri.T.K.Ramamoorthy
Over to "MSV Club" !!! _________________ Ramkumar |

Thank you Ram for your spontaneous response. This is simply great. The duo is inseparable and will be inseparable. In most of the songs composed by TKR there is influence of MSV and similarly in most of the songs composed by MSV there is certainly influence of TK Ramamurthi is very much present. Therefore the question of comparison shall not arise. Particularly MSV will be delighted to recollect TKR's songs and so is TKR to recollect MSV's songs. I am sure this thread will bring out the nostaligc memories of TKR's compositions. On my part, I shall try to bring out whatever is in mind. Personally I feel TKR needs more exploration. This will be the right forum.
Thank you,
V. Raghavendran. |

Film: Saadhu Mirandaal
Song: Arulvaayae
Singer: Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna
Lyrics: Aalangudi Somu
Saadhu Mirandaal is the first film for TK Ramamurthi to compose individually. This film based on the concept from an English film, is a masterpiece for A.Bhimsingh (He supervised the direction of his associates Thirumalai-Mahaalingam). This film brought out the hidden talent of the legendary comedienne T.R. Ramachandran, who proved his versatility as a character actor in this film. T.K. Ramamurthi's bgm was a boon to this classic. There was certainly the feel of MSV present in this film throughout.

This song is a devotional number by the legendary Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna. Flawless, typical trade mark gamakams of Dr BMK make this song an evergreen number. The chorus would give ample support to the bgm.

Song :A for Apple
Film: Saadhu Mirandaal
Singer : A.L.Raghavan & chorus.
This one and the other one, Nadagamae indha Ulagam, were hit numbers during the film's run. The film was commercially successful. These two songs were added attraction to the film.

Song: Vizhiyaal Kaadhal Kadidham
Film: Thaenmazhai
Singers: T.M.S. & P.Suseela
Lyrics: Vaalee
This one is among the best of T.K.Ramamurthi. You can watch MSV's style in this song. The percussion (I think treple bangoose), will simply be marvellous, and the beats would vary. The voices of the singers would also be different. The lyrics would have contributed too. One of the best duets of TMS and P Suseela.

Song : Nenjae Nee Poi saedhiyai sollu
Film: Thaenmazhai
Singer: P. Suseela
Lyrics: Vaalee
This is also from TKR's second film Thaenmazhai. Suseela's voice in the charanams will make you involve deeply into the song and touch your heart. Vaalee's lyrics will represent the situation in the film. This hilarious riproaring comedy film was a commercially successful film. Evergreen songs, evergreen film.

Song: Malarai pondra paruvamae
Film: Madras to Pondicherry
Singer : T.M.S.
Lyrics: Thanjaivaanan
Thanjaivaanan is one of those Tamil scholars who is well versed in various forms of literature. He was the dialogue writer for Nadigar Thilagam's AIR drama Kalankanda Kavignan. Thanjaivanan has composed a few songs for TKR and this is one among them. This song was a superhit at that time. The whole film was entertaining, and introduced the comedy child prodigy then Master Kaadhar who was called as Pakoda Kaadhar from this film. As for TKR, there are 4 songs in this film. All of them were hit.

Song: Endha endha nenjukkullae
Film: Madras to Pondicherry
Singer: T.M.S. P.Suseela
Lyrics: Naamakkal Varadaraajan
This is a fast paced duet (TKR's duets would have mostly been fast paced duets). His style did had the influence of MSV but he proved his individual versatility in his films music as well as bgm. This duet is also a memorable song for the TMS PS combo.

Song: Vasantha kaalam varumo
Film: Marakka Mudiyuma
Singers: P.Suseela, K.J. Jesudas
Lyrics: Kavignar Suradaa
What a song, what an humming, what a lyrics, what a tune? The best song in the career of T.K. Ramamurthi as an individual md. In fact all the songs in Marakka Mudiyuma were hit numbers. But this song hasn't seen the light of the day for the pase three or four decades after its initial run. Anybody who had already heard this song will cherish their memories.

Song: Kallappaarvai kannukku inbam
Singers: PB Srinivas & P Suseela
Film: Engalukkum Kaalam Varum
Lyrics: Kannadaasan
Another fast beat duet from TKR with PBS & P Suseela. While the beats are fast, the melody is still there. The song is catchy, melodious, fast paced and the instruments underplayed, typical Ramamurthi's style. But a delight to hear. This one is another memorable song for P.B.Srinivas. This song has not been played in the AIR or even Ceylon Radio after initial run. One of the Best duets of P.B.Srinivas.

|
|
Song: Kaadhalan Vandhaan
Film: Moondrezhuthu
Singers: P.Suseela & SV Ponnuswamy
Lyrics: Kannadaasan
Ponnuswamy was used for mostly folk oriented or fast paced or colloquial songs till then. Credit should go to Ramamurthi for bringing him as a classic playback singer. The humming he has given in this song is very rare in nature and would be very emotive. He would have sunk himself into it. Suseela's voice will add pep to take a firm seat in your heart. One of the best melodies of T.K. Ramamurthi. In fact, if this song is reminded to our master MSV, he would feel very much delighted and involve himself into this song and sit quietly for sometime.
Melody to the core.

_________________ Saradha Prakash |

To Sarada Mm,
You are absolutely right. Ramanna needs just 10x10 sq ft to picturise a duet. It was his versatility. All those songs were of classics. I am trying to put as many songs that are mention worth, to post in this thread. Thangasurangam (ch was missing) is one such film. There is another song by S. Varalakshmi, Petra manam siraiyilae, which was removed after a few weeks' run from the theatres. It is one of those rare melodious as well as philosophical songs from Ramamurthi.
Dear Sampath,
Thank you for the encouraging words. I am trying to collect the song from Marakkamudiyuma and if I get it, I shall immediately try to post it.
Sincerely,
V. Raghavendran. |
