Dear friends,
I saw this song in the section for analysis, rather late. But I choose the thread to bring in the mssage as to how MSV broke barriers and made a genuine impact. The movie VAAZHKAI PADAGU was a remake of the Hindi movie GUNGHAT in 1965. This was the first occasion that GEMINI BANNER invited MSV to work for their tamil movie. I repeat the conversation, between MSV and GEMINI proprietor SSVasan at the latter's office from the word go.
As MSV entered he was greeted by a voice
"Vaarungal- Viswanathan Ramamoorthy avargalay" MSV was slightly taken aback for none has till then addressed him so.
SS V : Look it is my fate, I have to engage you for this project.
MS V : OK, but why do you call it fate?
SS V : Everyone in my family strongly says if I make a TF, it should
only be with you as MD. All my family is unanimous. All these
years they have never said such things.
MSV stayed silent.
SS V : You seem to be familiar to me!
MS V : Yes Sir I have to your studios to sing in a chorus in
SV Venkataraman's composition.
SS V : You know , Gemini has a philosophy of not entertaining"outsiders" in movie productiom, So you need to keep this in mind for this work.
MSV : OK Sir, let me try whatever I can.
Thus MSV gained access to GEMINI - a prestigeous banner then.
MSV stormed the movie with all varieties of composition and orchestration that SSV would never have dreamt of nor managed with some one else ! SS V's family proved itself right or rather MSV firmly established the faith placed on him. In all the subsequent movies from GEMINI, INCLUDING THE TF AKBAR [Dubbed from MOGHUL-E-AZAM- Naushad] MM has made scintilating pieces right from Vaazhkai padagu to Shanthi Nilayam and beyond. For an MD of the calibre of MSV, it was the acid test those days. [b][b]The present generation should not imagine that like the later situations, red carpet reception was accorded[b]. But history has it that, all those high profile bosses were duly silenced by a brilliant display of quality which was worth its weight in gold. That all such movie banners retained MSV as the Aasthana MD in their major projects, stands proof of MSV's contribution to all such movies.
Warm regards Prof.K.Raman Navi Mumbai _________________ Prof. K. Raman

dear prof
it was interesting .but when the challenge was given to the duo R felt that it was a critical situation as ssv had a great expectation over the music and he pinched V indicating that they can run away instead of taking the challenge .
but V heard a voice from behind and insisted that he take the challenge .it was like asareeri inn tamil and he took the same .the rest was history
what a toil , effort,hard work ,roaring mind,concentration .
no match for him in the world |

_________________ Saradha Prakash |

Dear Prof.
A grand recollection of the old events ! Thanks once again .
The splendid opening to Aayiram penmai malarattume must have stunned Mr. Vasan & he must have decided to lock MSVTKR forever. That song to me gazalish & must have been odd one out during those times.
Even their last movie ?? Janani has some lovely songs by MSV . |
