Dear Friends,
The story in Nenjiruukum varai is another lot of sacrifice enunciated on a circumstantial bondage between people who are unrelated but brought into a sort of association as members of a middle class society, waging an endless war for survival. How each member is right by his or her reckoning can be understood from their utterances through the movie.
Sivaji Ganesan and V.Gopalakrishnan are daily wage earners, if they manage a job on a day. The two share a room rented out by V.S.Raghavan in his house. Even the most rent of Rs 5/- a month is beyond their capacity as they make only a hand to mouth existence with hand in mouth on many days.YET, THEY DO NOT RESORT TO any unlawful activity. They stick to honesty on the face of adversity. The house owner [VSR] is a strict landlord never losing a moment for asking rent and he does not hesitate to throw them out ; but retains them as the only daughter of his comes to their rescue. Mr.VSR is certainly convinced of their honesty and strict abeyance from deviant attitudes . Equally the two men stay on principles. Another jobless youngster is brought in by Sivaji Ganesan , who finds the man [Muthuraman ] in strange conditions. The three live together hunting jobs independently. Unilaterally Sivaji Ganesan falls in love with K.R.V though she does not intend the same. However events in the house push K.R.V closer to Muthuraman and even expresses her desire . An initially hesitant Muthu slowly accepts the proposal. Meanwhile Muthu is called back to Bangalore by his legal advisor. The legal battle restores huge property and his estates to Muthu who happily return to Chennai. On the way home he finds scandalous wall writings linking Sivaji Ganesan and K.R. V of unlawful relationship [ contrary to facts] Karikkol Raju, arriving at the spot makes MUTHU believe that the charcoal writing is true. A dejected Muthu on reaching home finds S.Ganesan and KRV each taking leave of each other with S.GANESAN TELLING HER THAT he would return home early in the evening. The disturbed Muthu gets back to Bangalore stupidly believing the Karikol writings. At Bangalore the confused Muthu is taken advantage of by his secretary and permanently enslved to hard drinks and enticing dancer Gitanjali - sister of Mali the secretary. To continue.

The treatment does not convey any design on the part pf Mali or his sister to make a fool Muthuraman. As things unfurl, Muthu gets deeply involved; he tends to forget both K.R.V amd Sivaji Ganesan. The tensed up K.R V requests Sivaji's help. His efforts to bring back Muthu through communication fails. Sivaji barges into Muthu totally unaware of the latter's new-found company. When Muthu treats him shabbily, Sivaji understands that all is not well with Muthu . After deliberation, Sivaji extracts a commitment from Muthu for marrying KR.V. It was an agreement in duress by Muthu, [with a plan to torture KRV for her infedility to him ] on the condition that Sivaji should not visit the Muthus thereafter. Sivaji agrees to it with fomd hopes of good life for K.R.V. Things go topsy- turvy for K.R.V . An agitated Sivaji storms into Muthu and issues a dynamic warning to mend his ways. But the adamant Muthu irritates Sivaji where upon the wounded man physically assaults Muthu and warns the secretary and his sister to keep off Muthu. This angers Muthu who with a pistol meets his old friend Sivaji with the intention of wiping him out. But the inebriated Muthu tries to use the pistol not loaded, and the disturbed Sivaji runs for life. Muthu's vagaries continue. When Sivaji tries to advise Muthu , the latter spits venom on Sivaji .KRV as of illicit relation. Attempts by the girl and Sivaji to prove him wrong fall on deaf years. The clueless decides to prove their holy relation by ending his life using his revolver. It is the sudden sacrifice that clears the air for Muthu to understand things rather belatedly.
What makes it a subject of study is the treatment , portrayal of relationships and the use of utterly simple words of very serious punch all over.

Dear Prof.,
Today in one of the TV channels, they showed this movie.
I am seeing it after a very long time may be after 20 years.
I completely forget the climax. I missed from the beginning. I saw only the last 30 minutes. That was a sad ending. _________________ Meendum Santhippom Viraivil...
