Dear Friends,
We are unanimous about 3 important qualities of MM.These are: his precision in perfection, perpetually young melodies and extreme humility. Despite these accomplishments if he stays calm, it indicates the feature of Divinity in him. This can be readily inferred if we recall that GODs create so many things and yet stay speechless. But, being of a human form, MSV does speak THOUGH NEVER ABOUT HIMSELF. There is a deep message that may not readily meet the eye. To understand this legend, one has to draw the opinions from his close colleagues, Objective critics who have stablished neutrality and above all the utterances of the person himself. Of these the last option is a powerful tool for analysis as it is an ideal pointer to "character".
SOME OF THE WELL KNOWN UTTERANCES OF MM are :

SANGEETHTHAI VIDA INGIDHAM thaan MUKKIYAM.
NAAN ENGAPPA PANNINAEN
ENAKKU UZHAIKKA DHAN THERINJADHU
PIZHAIKKA THERIYALLAE.
ELLAM AVANGA KODUTHA INSPIRATION
ELLAMAE TEAM WORK !

If we look at these statements, they have been oft-repeated, meaning that he does not makestatements on and on. Yet he chooses brevity to suggest his perception and does not launch a verbal torrent. Therefore he is quite deep as is his penchant for melody. Look at this instance. Once there was a TV show of interaction betwee MSV and Gangai Amaran, GA was explaining some notes in "ANNAKKILI UNNAITHAEDUTHAE".MSV was firmly anchored in rapt attention steadfastly gazing at GA. Suddenly he interjected, "Oh, Annakkeeeli nu vandhudum illa?" The pity was , I too was follwing GA but not the way MSV perceived the NEDIL. Why I refer to it here is, at that stage GA was just in the early stages of film career. Can we expect someone who mesmerised and decided the fate of movies big and rich for decades to listen like a child to a "child"?. That is MSV . All his short staements are rich in concept and content. Only late in his life his utterances no.3 and 4 are appearing indicative of the need to have something to fall back upon. This painful statement reveals that this giant , after 50 plus years of continual composingof melodies for others, raises his head from his intimate, inanimate twin-the harmonium to see around! The world around is selfisfish in desire and lavish in sycophancy-the 2 elements conspicuously missing in MSV. But all such noble souls would always be in the penumbra of DIVINE GRACE staying in high esteem and duly so.
Warm regards Prof.K.Raman Navi Mumbai.
