NENJIL ORE AALAYAM -- VI - Songs
Dear friends
In this segment , the powerful elements of the movie viz-- the lyrics receive our attention. As I had posted earlier , this was the first occasion when CV Sreedhar had a turn around to V R as MDs. Interestingly already, CVS, V R had established themselves as powerful leaders in their domains and KaNNadasn was of course a common friend of all these people. Speaking of N O A , I am genuinely amazed to recall this domain of the movie with the now famous adage "
MORTAL MEN and IMMORTAL SONGS / MUSIC.
I take this opportunity to respectfully remember KAVI ARASU
KANNA DASAN FOR HIS IMMACULATE PERFECTION SOAKED IN
SIMPLICITY.
N O A Has the distinction of holding nothing unwanted and Kannadasan has simply electrified the atmosphere by pegging the emotions through articulate assemblages of words. In all song situations, besides deeply etching the emotions, Kaviarasu stands magnificently tall, as he parallely reflects the stature of the character on each occasion.
Let us look at these Pallavi / charanam lines that draw us to the epicentre of emotion as the plot thickens.
ENGIRUNDHAALUM VAAZHGA - [A L Raghavan]
How magnanimous the stature of Doctor goes with this pallavi. Look at this:
'Varuvaai ena naan thanimaiyil ninraen, vandhadhu vandhaai thuNaiyudan vandhaai, ThuNavaraikkaakkum kadamaiyum thandhaai
ThooyavaLae nee vaazhga' The position of Doctor and his attitude are revealed in just 3 lines.
NINAIPPADHELLAM NADANDHU VITTAL -[P B S]
'Engay vazhkkai thodangum adhu engay evvidham mudiyum
Idhuthaan paadhai idhuthaan payaNam enbadhu yaarukkum theriyadhu
Paadhai ellam maari varum payaNam mudindhuvidum .
Maaruvadhai purindhukondaal mayakkam theLindhu vidum".
This stanza is the very elixir of life. Everyone can draw meanings that suits the personal occasion, Intended to condition the wife's mind to make her accept the inevitable, should it happen.
MUTHTHAANA MUTHTHALLAVO -- [P S]
"Maavadu kkaNNallavo Mynavin mozhi allavo
an apt phraseology that universally fits all children and appeals to anyone irrespective of our relationship to the child. The song effectively soreads calmness in an otherwise tight atmosphere.
SONNADHU NEE THAANAA SOL SOL SOL EN UYIRAE --[PS]
"Deivaththin maarbil soodiya maalai theruvinilae vizhalaamaa
Vizhundhaalum vaeror kai thodalaamaa"
How effectively the lady dismisses her husband's appeal for her remarriage to the doctor. Right from the pallavi it is a song rich in intricate questions that can be answered in only one way. This song is dedicted to reflect the culture of married women and does not permit any violative deviations by logical counter arguments. Simply brilliant.
ENNA NINAITHTHU ENNAI AZHAITHTHAYO [ PS ]
"Paravai parandhu sella vidivaena andhapparamporul vandhaalum tharuvaena ? Unnai azhaiththuchella eNNum thalaivanidam ennaiyae naan thara maruppaena ?
Another emotive appeal by questions that reply themselves in the negative. Totally arrests the husband's far-reaching suggestions however well meant they were.
ORUVAR VAAZHUM AALAYAM URUVAMILLA AALAYAM [TM S, LR E co]
"karuNai deivam kaigaL neetti aNaikkaththaavum aalayam
kaalamellam thirandhu kaaNum kadhavillaadha aalayam "
NONE CAN IMAGINE TO PORTRAY THE EFFECT SO VERY WELL IN SUCH SIMPLE WORDS. Hats off to Kavi arasu KaNNadasan,
Can we ask for anything more when we do not know what we want.

Dear Professor,
Really, Great going !!
Everyday I have started longing for your posting on this series on N O A
and it is a feast each day.
Reading your postings, myself and Ram thought simultaneously but independantly on an initiative and when he mentioned 'that' to me, my surprise was boundless. I will speak to you on 'this' over phone and decide how we will take 'it' further.
Pl continue writing, non-stop, for us to enjoy !
Regards
