Dear Jeev,
Many thanks for reminding me of this song which I used to enjoy very much during my school days - used to be broadcast on Neyar Viruppam. In fact, if I remember correctly, Nadigar Thilagam would be stabbed at the end of this song which precedes the 'interval'. I was very upset in the cinema theatre!! Only after the interval, it would come to light that the knife was a dummy one and NT was still alive!
A very light hearted and jocular song in an otherwise sad movie - as the hero (AVM Rajan, I think), a crook who reforms himself, would die in the end.
Those days, no one spoke about fusion music. It has become very fashionable to credit all types of people with innovation these days. Many decades ago, our Mellisai Maamannar has created 'fusion music' combining western, carnatic and folk styles - all in one song. And he would never have even considered mentioning this as a feat. Such is the greatness of our Musical Legend.
Thank you once again for bringing this entertaining song to the fore.
