Dear Mr. Venu,
I was also present during the 'Andha Naal Nyabagam' by Vasanth TV and 'Dhinathandhi' on 21st Dec 08. I also had the same feeling that Srinivas was shaking his body as if he was singing brilliantly but we know how he performed. He has good voice but only good voice alone does not make a parfect singer. PBS, PS AND SJ would have shakec thier body only about 2% of what srinivas did but could have brought out more that 500 % better in singing. The orchestra of 'sadaga paraivagal' was very good.

Regarding your waiting for the other post I am sorry when I was abput to make the reply I lost my internet connection for almost 10 days.

Shall reply soon,

We shall also in the mean time try to get info from PBS himself

Regards,

N Y MURALI

Dear Mr Murali,

Your observation on Srinivas is absolutely correct. It is 100% true that just having a good voice will not automatically make that person a good singer.

I wanted to make a mention about the "Sadhagap Paravaigal" Orchestra in my yesterday's posting itself. But forgot. They did a fantastic job. After MSV's orchestra, for the first time I saw somebody using so many Violins (nowadays you never get to see Violins used in any of the orchestras).

Also, that day the best rendering according to me was by TMS's son Mr TMS Balraj, who superbly sang "Dhevane Ennaip Paarungal" from "Gnyana Oli" and got a special praise from the Legend himself.

I am also enjoying your postings listing out songs in different Ragas. Please keep up the good job. Unfortunately I am a "gnyana sunyam" as far as Carnatic Music is concerned.

Cheers!

Dear friends,
Many valuable points have been raised here. I personally feel, as Prof. Madhuraman Sir, said, artistes need to use the given opportunity to say about their mentors. Of course in case of PBS, he never fails to mention MM's name every now and then. But then, in Thirumbippaarkkiren, it is difficult to find what went wrong.
But the main point raised here in this thread is = not about any body missing to mention MM;s name - but what we have done about those who use the slightest opportunity to glorify MM, in this case, YGM. This is only an example and not specific. We should not leave any stone unturned to invite any one who is so affectionate and staunch supporter of Mellisai Mannar.
What are we going to do?
Raghavendran.

Dear Mr. Raghavendran,
In your posting above, there is a valid suggestion to our forum. Your hint makes me go into some finer areas of the subject. I mean, our duty to identify personalities who are ready to share their genuine perceptions about MM -the composer. Endrum MSV has given us the opportunity to spot them not by just what they say but how precisely they speak about the legend. As we can recall, CVR came out in full gear on the occasion. Spotting such people from such events must be used by MSV Times.com for an exclusive interview or writeup so that our mission of propagating the virtue of quality music receives the appropriate strength it deserves. Someone in our Forum should compile such names so that in our programmes, they are availed off. Their participation would draw the circle of their fans who may also be admirers of MSV. It appeals to me as worthy of an objective trial. Our organizers may please devote thought to this subject.
Thank you for leading the thought.
Warm regards Prof.K.Raman Madurai.

Dear Professor,
What you have mentioned is what I had in mind while writing the previous post here. Not only those troupe members of MSV, but even observers, connoisseurs, and people from all walks of life who had associations with our MM may be invited either to write in the forum if they can spare time or to participate in functions organised by msvtimes.com. More particularly living lyricists, singers, and other classical musicians who had worked with MSV can be invited. If I am permitted to give examples, I can say the legendary Balamurali Krishna, lyricists like Naa. Kaamarasan, Muthulingam, and even film directors, K.S. Gopalakrishnan, Muktha Srinivasan, may be invited and every thing need to be documented. I emphasise documentation, because we have been losing many legends in the past decade who have made invaluable contributions to the Tamil film music. Earlier the better so that we can cover most of those previous generation legends who had worked with MM, invariably all categories of cinema. And in fact, sound engineers, Sampath of AVM studios must be having tons of experiences to share with.
The list is endless.
Raghavendran.

Hi,

In “Thirumbip Paarkiren”, it is the turn of Muktha Srinivasan this week. As we all know, as is normal in majority of the Directors’ case, music for most of MS’s films was composed by MM. I was wondering whether MS’s views on MSV will be aired at all. But surprisingly they telecast a few lines. I am still sure the channel is not telecasting the celebrities’ comments/praise on MSV “as it is”.

MS said, when it comes to Music Directors “I should definitely make a mention of MSV and KV Mahadevan”. But immediately thereafter, they showed MS talking elaborately about KVM’s song “Erik Karayin Meley” from “Mudhalali”. Then the topic switched to some thing else and after some time came back to MSV. After a line of praise, MS said “MSV-kku side-la kuthina kobam varum. Kannadhasan venumney avara kuthuvar. Odaney MSV perisa kathuvar and Kannadhasan perisa sirippaar”. I am confident that MS would have said much more in praise of MSV, when he spoke so much on one song of KVM, who would have hardly composed music for 2 or 3 films of MS.

Also, the channel’s editing is terrible. When MS was referring to MSV’s music, they showed a song from “Aayiram Poi” for which music was composed by V Kumar. Strange and puzzling????

Regards,

Venu Soundar

Hi,

Thank God, yesterday the channel did telecast a few lines of praise showered by Muktha Srinivasan for MSV. MS was actually referring to the song "Isai Kettal Puvi Asainthadum" from "Thavap Pudhalvan". They played almost half the song.

MS said he wanted MSV to compose the song in "Bengali style". But MSV refused saying "nothing can match composing in our own South style". Needless to say about the greatness of the song. Muktha was awe-struck "how true he was, what a music director and what a composition?".

Long Live MSV and His Magical Music.

Cheers!

I would like to add a line mentioned by Muktha on MSV that day :

"விஸ்வநாதனுக்கு படத்தின் சிச்சுவேஷனை நன்கு விவரித்துவிட்டால் போதும். அவ்வள்வுதான், தன்னையே மறந்து வேறு உலகத்துக்குப் போய்விடுவான். அப்போது அவன் கொடுக்கும் ட்யூன்களின் அழகையும், பிரவாகத்தயும் சொல்லி முடியாது. !!"

அருமையான வார்த்தைகள். உண்மையான வ்ரிகள்.!!

Dear Friends,
I think it is time that we must send a letter to jaya tv signed by all of us expressing our displeasure with regard to the deliberate suppression of facts about our master.

Hi,

I came across a new programme on "Padhigai" channel on Sunday morning, called "Pattukku Paattu", which is more like an "Anthakshari". Last Sunday (19th), it was "Mellisai Mannar MSV Special".

Strangely, the contestants also sang "Asaya Kaathula Thoodhu Vittu" (from "Jaani", composed by Ilayaraja) and "Asai Asai Ippozhuthu" (from "Dhool" composed by Vidhyasagar). I don't understand how such silly errors can happen and even the conductors/producers of the prog did not know that the above two songs were non-MSV numbers.

By the way, I am not readily getting any song of MSV that is starting with "Asai".

Dear Mr.Venu Soundar,
Aasai povathu vinnile
Kaalgal povathu mannile
Palam podungal yaaravathu
Paadi aadungal indravathu...
from Naam Pirantha Mann by SPB for Kamal.
Paatai keetu paarungal... namadhu aasai vinnai thandi pogum... Smile
A very good MSV-SPB combo. Not to be missed out in our collections.

Right now I am able to recollect only this "asai" song.

Dear Shankar
No doubt Malligai En Mannan Mayangum was the one which identified Vani Jayaram as one of the greatet singers of Tamil cinema. But the first Tamil song to be recorded was "Oridam Oridam" with T.M.S. in the film Veettukku Vandha Marumagal (Ravichandran Lakshmi in the lead). Music by Shankar Ganesh
