ENJOY!!‘aayiram penmai malarattumey...’!
The vigorous instrumental prelude.
Female vocalist leading the hypnotic, erotic tune , alternating solo & group vocalists repeating the passages with improvisations!
Love the emotional solo recital with out percussion in the middle of the song!
Musical Ecstasy! Musical Mystic!

Continuation of ‘aayiram penmai...’ Vaazhkai Padagu!

This is a specialty composition.

I was fortunate to tumble down on this gem when I was randomly listening to ‘aayiram’, ‘anbey’ etc.. chumma 'A' songs kettunduyerundhen!MSV songs this weekend!

Aayiram penmai ..... is a gem of a QAWWALI composition.

Faithful to the highest standard of QAWWALI MUSIC, Shri.MSV, an exemplar brought out the characteristics of genre QAWWLI in his film composition.

What I like about this composer is his ability to celebrate/highlight /be faithful to the genre definitions/rules(consistently he is proving in Indian Classical Music compositions)and take advantage of his non purist platform(cinema music) to show his musical might!
That is CLEVER!

Just randomly check out QAWWALI compositions by purists in this website.

http://www.dishant.com/qawwali-albums-index.html

Don’t worry about the language or theme of the compositions.
Our goal is not to understand the poetry or meaning of that particular composition.
First we need to understand the characteristics of this genre.
Gather the format and check back with ‘aayiram penmai...’.

Characteristics of QAWWALI MUSIC!!

QAWWALI is an ecstatic ritual in islamic tradition.
QAWWALI guides the listeners to the spiritual union with the saints, prophet, with Allah!
QAWWALI ensemble is led by the singer, who also plays harmonium, and is backed by other singers (who clap along), a drummer (who plays dholak), and sometimes a sitar, tabla, or other instrument. Parties range from four to over a dozen players.
QAWWALI songs provide word, poetry phrases with REPETITION, IMPROVIZATIONS by the group and solo singers.!!
With ‘aayiram penmai...’, Shri.MSV has modeled QAWWALI genre to tamil film music.
He has embraced the secular theme(situational song ) the freedom the cinema medium provides for him.

Another QAWWALI song I highlight here is popular ‘parda hai parda....’ Rafi in AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY! Composer LAXMIKANT PYARELAL.

Check it out! Akbar(Rishi Kapoor) a muslim tailor’s son sings.

Need to watch the films to enjoy the theme of the songs.

‘aayiram penmai...’ - taking a new genre of music to the masses with out diluting the standards - That is Shri.MSV’s VIRTUOSITY!

Dear Vinatha,
YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY 100% TRUE !!! Beautiful narration of this Musical Saint's style of composing which infact "elaborates" your name, BAROQUE Surprised) !!!! Brilliant.....

These were the words from the Legend himself when we personally asked Him once as how he could handle various genre of world music like Jazz, rock n roll , gospel to our own classical with such an ease and expertise. You know, he immediately started singing the rhythm of MANITHAN ENBAVAN DEIVAM AAGALAM from Sumai Thangi and termed it as an example for a western classical genre (with Piano background ) with his own melodious tune ( as you say , " take advantage of his non-purist platform") !!!! He always harmonizes the genre that he handles with His own Melodious tune that indeed enhances the beauty of the genre perse and gives us an Eternal MUSIC !!!

How do we term this musical extravanganza ???

Hats Off !!!

MSV Rules,
Venky
