Dear Friends,
From now on, the thread and the subtopics would concentrate on the varied aspects that logically strengthen the faith of 'TREND SETTING' in TF and TFM. The credit for music must go to The duo V R and later to V for consolidating sophisticated orchestration in the then TF. Why to specify 'then TF' deserves being understood. Movie-making those days required some story or plot with deep ramification of emotions and interplay of cross currents there in. Therefore, Producers preferred to have specific technical crew as a part of the organization, indirectly compelling a sense of commitment. MDs were not part of the Production houses though as two great exceptions Shri. R.Sudharsanam [AVM] and Shri. Vedha [Vedhachalam of Modern theatres] could be cited.
However some sort of "AasthAna status" was enjoyed by Music Directors merely on sentimental association. This could be taken as a pointer to the first encounter between MSV and SS Vasan wherein SSV made it appear to MSV that SSV has some serious reservations in engaging the services of MM. However, MSV wiped out all such reservations by the left little finger of his by the way "Vazhkaippadagu" songs were composed.
The variety in song composition, orchestration and BGM scores, not to forget the reverberating Bongo play of VR invited a lasting attention on them. Quickly most movie houses inducted VR for their movies.

In 1964, the duo scored for 14 movies. Of them 5 had NT on the lead role, 4 had MT [MGR] on the lead role and the rest, movies with no serious star value. The last category involves
"vAzhkaivAzhvadharkE' "karuppupaNam","kalaikoil" and
"Server Sundaram".
All the 14 movies have had rich compositions in terms of song tunes, embellishments and BGM scores beside treatment of plots by Directors.

Star-studded movies of the period
"Aandavan kattaLai", "kai koduththa deivam", "karNan", "Pachai viLakku" and "pudhiya paravai" all of NT and prominent heroines.

"DeivathAi", "en kadamai"," padagOtti"."paNakkAra kudumbam" all of MGR and Saroja Devi

Silent movies that took the audience by storm
"Server Sundaram", "kAdhalikka nEramillai"

Movies that failed at the box office though their songs possess our minds to date-"karuppupaNm", " vAzhkai vAzhvadharkE", "kalai koil".

From the story line or treatment point of view, all the 14 movies were quite different. All movies boast of excellent songs which are radically different in their structuring, orchestration and ideal placement in respective movies. All of them obeyed the story mood and lived upto the most precious value of pushing the story ahead. With this backdrop in mind, let us try to understand how vibrant were the MDs V R.
All friends can initiate or join the discussion in promoting our understanding of how these movies were meticulously executed at all levels of production.

Warm regards Prof. K.Raman Madurai.
