Dear Friends,

As a revisit, we have been trying to retrace key points that bring out the 'effort' behind the movie-making those days. To rejoice how meticulous they were, some items need being narrated.

In such a 'happy-go-lucky' theme like "kAdhalikka nEramillai" average Directors would leave many loose ends, especially those that come in a passing, just as casual utterances. But, "k n" has been one where unconnected spots do not exist, all having been precisely linked.

1. In scene 2 or so MR leaves Madras to help his friend Ravichandran[RC] borrowing the aristocratic car from his dad; and until well into the movie, father and son never meet. When they meet at Baliah's house only the son recognizes the dad; the father is worriedly surprised at his car with MR and runs around the car checking for Reg.no which shows iit is his own; musters courage to findout from MR of its ownership. A slightly cornered M R extricates self saying that 'now it is my car' ; goes further to tell that at Coimbatore some broker brought it and "I GAVE A SINGLE CHEQUE FOR 33 THOUSAND" and repeats in English'thirtythree thousand' and triumphantly takes the car without looking back and drives off.

2. After several scenes, M R has to initiate conversation with his dad as otherwise his marriage to Kanchana would run into trouble. After ascertaining that all things are safe with the wedding arrangements,
M R assures his dad of coming to Chinnamalai exactly on wedding date. With such a serious knot in the movie sequence, connectivity of plot comes when M R eagerly tells [rather the Director] the dad of his having sold the car for a good price [Rs 33,000/-]. A trivial point is well linked!

3 Another interesting point comes when the father and son [M R] meet as strangers, the father [ VSR] extends an arm of friendship saying Visu must be a blessed man to BE YOUR SAMBANDHI Mr.Chidambaram; a shaky MR offers his hand containing his embarassment, where upon a worried Baliah corrects VS R not to call sambandhi by name and insists he be called 'CHIDAMBARATH AYYA'- a very serious approach to render the scene very light.

4 When in an early scene Nagesh briefs Sachu's dad that they would turn prosperous if the daughter acts in movies ; they can go round in car in full view of Nagesh's father, placing a leg above the other, Sachu's dad [ Mr.Prabhakar] visibly upset says 'no, it is not manners' - a wonderful way of depicting the then generation's lotalty to their employers. A very powerful handling of the moment.

5 When at last Sachu's dad intercepts Baliah and VSR and pleads for Sachu's wedding to Nagesh, he asks for an assurance from Baliah to be his Sambandhi. VSR intervenes . 'you want to become Sambandhi isn't it? Sachu's dad sensing danger, reiterates, yes but to him touching Baliah's torso, that irritates the helpless Baliah. These are moments of class-consciousness among the rich and the poor but managed with exceptional precision without using offensive statements from either side.

Undoubtedly, the movie crew has played up comic elements without disregarding natural senriments and logical connectivity between events.Substantial homework has been done in the making of this movie.

Others may please add your observations.

Warm regards Prof.K.Raman Madurai.

Dear Prof,
Indeed you have taken pain in narrating the sequences in the movie 'kaadalikka neramillai'. The greatness of the movie is that there is never a dull moment and it does not bore you after seeing n number of times.

I remember once MSV said that there was a debate reg the last song 'nenjathai alli konjam tha' because it comes at the fag end of the movie and that the song could divert the attention of the viewers as the climax is nearing. But MSV insisted that the song sequence would be appropriate as the so called 2 frauds would be arrested after the song sequence would enable the policemen to understand that they were doing this fraud with the connivance of the girls and not alone.

This help the next sequence when they go to the police station and talk to the inspector to justify the point.

But Director said the song at the fag end of the movie could make the viewers go out for tea. But MSV assured that he would compose the song in such a way that nobody would leave the theater during the song. he indeed kept the promise.
