Dear Friends,
This piece pertains to the grandeur of V- R as the MDs of the movie.Songs were ready by mid 1964 and the movie hit the screen for Pongal 1965. That should clearly help us to view things that happened clear 46 years ago and look at the clarity of songs.
The movie emphatically reiterated V-R's variety for the nth time. I mean variety of songs in a single movie.
This movie harboured 7 songs as I had recalled in my previous posting.

1. 'kaNgaLum kAvadi sindhAgattum' PS LRE, co

A brilliant piece rich in classical touch, essentially meant as a dance number where in the story line gets hinted even as the timid MGR is groping around. The orchestration had a gripping impact.
L Vijayalakshmi lent a good support by her dexterity.

2.'nAn mAndhOppil' - TMS LRE

A song that turned into a megahit well before the movie was seen by the audience. MSV chose to use instruments ideal for rural setting and notably his 'proverbial bongo' is conspicuos by absence in this song. People who propagate the view that folk styles arose after 1976 are obviously oblivious of facts; let them listen to this number for its rich dialectical fervour where words like 'sodi kuil. veLLame, thaNNeer pandhal' etc are handled with aplomb.

3. 'nAn AaNai ittAl' TMS
A tailor-made piece for MGR that catapulted his fortune and image to a never before scale. MSV's tell-tale orchestration and exceedingly precise play of bongo did wonders to the very movie, compelling MGR fans to revisit the movie endlessly.[ I request our new comers to read the article in our site on 'the tone of MSV's bongo' by Shri.Ram .N.Ramakrishnan just to recognize the immaculate perfection typical of MSV].
Credits for visual impact should go to Vincent- Sundaram where the camera performed 'viewing' much like humans would do.

Other songs would follow soon.

Warm regards Prof.K.R Madurai.
