Dear Friends,
I found a treasure in MSV's music ocean today. There is a general myth that Ilayaraja was the first to introduce Raga 'Reedhi Gowlai' with the song 'Chinna Kannan Azhaikkiraan'.

What I found was that some 20 years before MSV has used this raga in a song in the movie 'Tenali Raman' in a raga maaliga style in which this comes as the first.

In fact the style of Raaga maliga is itself very special and unusual. Normally in a raaga maaliga style the pallavi is set in one raage and different charanam are set in different ragas and every time the chranam gets completed the melody is linked back to the original raga of the pallavi.

But unusually MSV has started the pallavi of the song in the raaga 'Reedhi Gowlai' has composed the charanam in the same raaga and shifted to the next raaga 'Kamaas' which is again very rare in MSV's case and instead of coming back to the pallavi in the same pallavi raga which is 'Reedhi Gowlai' he has composed the pallavi in the raga 'Kamas' itself. And he shifted to the next charanam in the raga 'Vasantha' which is again very rare and again after the charanam he has tuned the pallavi in the same raaga in 'Vasantha'

Just hear this and convey your opinion on the same.

I recall a discussion with our friends in msvtimes when somebody asked MSV whether he has tuned any song in the raga 'Reedhi Gowlai' for which
MSV could not recollect.

Until this info is found it has been assumed that MSV did not use this raga.
But it is time to change the opinion.

The link for the song will be given by Mr. Ragasuda.

Regards,

Dear friends,
The above song is not available in video. One of the connoisseurs has been kind enough to share it through the web. The song is available only for download and not online listening. Our sincere thanks to him/her.

After analysing from various sources, it is observed, that this song, "Thennavan Thaai Naattu Singaarame", was recorded for the film "Thenaali Raaman" but not used. The producer and Director, Shri B.S. Ranga, seems to have included it in the film "Kutumba Gauravam". We can confirm if any one has the video of Kutumba Gauravam or it sees the light of the day in either dvd or vcd format.
