Dear Friends,
I have been watching the postings in this thread and what came on air last night [01-09-2011], for once did real justice to the legend. Despite the trend in tinsel world [of eulogising the currently popular Personalities], James Vasanthan came out honestly with what he has in mind of MDs in general. He reiterated that the 'spot compositions' were indeed true in the sense that the event was happening in real time and it was the actual moment that MSV had a glimpse of the lyric phrases just after compere Suhanisi read out the lines for viewers [as such MSV was too a viwer] on all those occasions.
Mr.James Vasanthan went on to narrate, how some of the MDs rang up to MSV and had a dig at him[MSV] saying that the whole presentation was stage-managed [ i.e tunes were all previously set and that the presenters made it appear instantaneous]. However, James Vasanthan clearly established the truth that when MSV was offered to be provided with the lyric phrases for some preliminary /preparatory efforts [implying that things would fall in place without dislocation], the legend rightaway refused the proposal saying that he prefers to have it 'on the spot'; further MSV informed Mr Vasanthan ."please do not ever worry, we will do it on the spot, for its novelty and as a re-do of my yester decade experience of 'on the spot' works with KD, Sivaji, MGR and a host of Directors and Producers in the vicinity of recording studios. More than once Mr.Vasanthan stressed the value of MSV as a composer for 'on the spot' exercise as the current crop of MDs are 'technology-fettered' with no personal experience of tutoring the singers on singing nuances.
Besides, even as the singers were coached into the art of singing, it was all before us to see how MSV was instantaneous in spotting lack of emotion in singing by he himself repeating the phrases in tuneful emotive singing, however short the phrases were. That MSV was impeccably honest in this effort was amply in evidence as he was constantly monitoring the rendering of phrases as if the songs were being recorded for a frontline artiste. Undoubtedly MSV is A LEGEND UNPARALLELED, in a world of easy going composers with whom TFM has decomposed to ephemeral existence.
I earnestly thank Mr.James Vasanthan for his honesty in utterance while stedfastly adhering to his conviction in analysing the prowess of the composer in MSV.
Thanks for the opportunity to bring out information unknown to the younger generation.
Warm regards K.Raman Madurai
