Dear Friends,
If we carefully consider songs from late 1950s, early-mid 60s witnessed a new breed of songs -"The club songs" as they were called then. In fact, there have been such efforts in TFM even earlier; but, what made this genre stay longer as to be integral to movie making was certainly KD-MSV magic that churned out apt lyric and orchestration.

If we [without bias]recall most of the non-MSV songs of the same genre and era, a distinct class of orchestration with 'native western flavour' was a patent of MSV, as against the attempts by a few to look authentic. If any one needs evidence, I would right away recall 'aadaverellam' and 'varavEndum oru pozhudhu' incidentally from movies made respectively by KD and MSV. There have been several such from MSV's stable; but each was distinct from tune and embellishments.
Though a find of KVM, LRE was brilliantly raised to a class by MSV who is a master in extracting 'emotive' singing. What mattered most with these numbers was the 'looks of inebriation' besides intoxicating the listener. These were handled with aplomb by KD -MSV that, slowly all movie-makers evolved a formula of club song for a movie's success. This was a strong factor for entrenching LRE as an able crooner , who of course did exhaustive homework that readily added the element of seduction while singing. On all such occasions of 'playing' with 'husky seductive invites' LRE was the automatic choice. What truly interests us at this juncture is the rich experiments carried out by KD-MSV in lyric and orchestration which were indeed the 'maternal blessing' for the now famous 'kuththuppAttu' that merely survives on nerve-raking rhythm unlike the pleasant orchestration of the 'mother version' though in spirit both intend attracting listeners.
Another dimension that came about in TF was the need to induct swift dancers, well-versed in varied beats; that paved the way for a new class of actresses who would just dance and quit. Though began by Helen, it was Jyothilakshmi sisters, Santha [AVM] , Rajeswari [Gemini] Vijayalalitha [Telugu movie houses] AND A NUMBER OF SMALL TIMERS BEFORE Disco Santhi and Silk Smitha held the forte as 'essentials' for movies.

With production costs sky-rocketing, women willing to touch the limits of censorship make it as heroines -perhaps doing nothing more than swinging selves as well as the fortunes of the movies.

With reasonable certainty one can suggest that the song styles and robust orchestration to begin with made the dance -talents get into TF and NOW IT IS THE MAJOR QUALIFICATION to be regarded - an artiste.
Thus, KD-MSV gave a new dimension to the process of screen play and Direction.

Dear Prof,

What was the reaction of people like you in particular and the general public
when the song 'Aadavarelam' came. Was it the first one in the R&R style.

Dear Mr.Murali,
Your question invites a very long travel down the memory lane, to the days my studentship in college. Those days we could only 'hear' songs, with no TV, COMPUTER , VIDEO TAPES, CD, DVD etc.
Visiting theatres was not easy with strict vigil of parents who would ascertain if the son /daughter could be permitted to watch a movie. Now our children enjoy due freedom and nothing can stop viewing anything except self control.
But, that regimentation we had, did not [ or could not] stop our appreciation of cine-songs in friends' circles.
Coming to your question on 'aadavarellAm', the song made every one turn around.Passers by would stop in front of Hotels, Radio shops or 'record playing mike-set shops' and in places with juke box playing this song that mesmerised young and old alike.
None knew the name of the movie until Radio ceylon brought the name out. This song and 'ammammA kEladi thOzhi' were super hits and other songs including ''thangachi chinnapoNNu' had to wait for acceptance that came a little later. All college students across south India[ all the 4 states] were crazy by the way the orchestration in these numbers were handled. It was then that inebriating songs were coming in to TF and no doubt people enjoyed that fresh appeal in orchestration backed up by voice interjects.
Certainly , it was not the first R'n' R as already MSV had done fusion music in ''Pathi bhakthi'' way back in 1957 0r so. But, this song from KD's ''karuppu paNam'' has been quite commanding in demanding attention even in my grand daughters days now. No wonder, none other than MSV is able to inspire such souls that were duly mesmerized by MSV era songs.
