Dear Friends,
Some features unique to the song relate to the lyric especially the choice of response and words. Despite the pressure of work, KaNNadasan used to settle for coinages that do not repeat for years unless absolutely essential. That is why kavignar KD's pieces evoke enthusiasm to listeners. That way ' muththukkaLO kaNgaL ' holds a place of pride for its elegance in simplicity , incessant induction to repeat listening, an orchestration which leaves us pleasantly baffled by virtue of the scores, alignment of instruments and the exemplary blend of voices and embellishments - a feat impossible for the ordinary brains.
What makes it a pleasant lyric is primarily its style of construction.
Normally movie lyrics are spun with statements and on occasions with mere questions [sandhippOma, thottukkAttavA] sometimes with questions and answers both by the same character [ennai theriyumA] or by the characters involved [ennai yArendru eNNI eNNI] and so on.
The song under reference has a new approach of raising questions and making statements even before the complementary character responds.
The pallavi opens on question; but moves over to statement" sandhiththa vELaiyil...... ennai"
The lady character begins on question "padiththa pAdam enna " and winds up on on a repeat "sandiththa vELaiyil ......... ennai"
But when the lady repeats the pallavi it is a rephrasing the question into statements 'MuththukkaLE, and thiththippadhE' -a simple but novel way of moving the theme.
The rest of the song also has a very unique structuring.
For every statement from the male there is an instant reply
TMS : kannippeNNai mella mella .........
PS: kadalin alaigaL Odivandhu........
TMS: ezhundha inbam enna..........
PS: virundhu kEtppadhenna ..... Viraindhu......
Pallavi
Again a phase of questions for the last charaNam
PS: Aasai konjam ...........................?
TMS: ARUGIL NADANDHU ..................?
PS: malarndha kAdhal...................?
TMS: vAzhai thOraNa mElaththOdu ..........?
Closing pallavi is rendered only by the female voice which hums out before handing over to string play.
To my limited knowledge on the subject, this song stands unique in the very organization pattern. This is not the end of it.
Please wait for more on the item.
