Dear SRS,
PS is way ahead of Lata in her singing capability. Also it is fact that PS had been gifted with such kind of voice which had no shrillness(which Lata obviously had) and the sheer variety she sung is a testimony to her ability. But the main credit goes to MSV to have extracted the hidden treasure in hr voice.
Well. regarding one another club song to be bracketed along with 'Indru vandh' is 'Paavai paavaothaan'. She herself acknowledged in a TV interview about how MSV gave her voice different test and she quoted the above song.
In my opinion the real Bhrat Rathna in female singing is one and only P Susila and nobody before or after. |

S R Shankar, you have indeed chosen a most unique facet of the MSV-PS combine and done a great job too in elucidating what tugged at your Heart strings. Actually NYM had urged me to take a look at the posting. Just stepping aside the vamp bit, the MSV-PS combo has an even more seductive (only in my opinion), "thithhippathu ethu" with the "ethu" part of it dragged a wee bit and completed like the crack of a whip for the seductive effect . You would not classify this song under the "traditional" melody category picturized on the typical domesticated, house wife. Again, stepping aside the vamp facet of the discussion, I was thoroughly sozzled by PS' portions in "nAn uyara uyara pOgirEn", you start suspecting her of actually being inebriated then....Now, shifting the PS factor outside of the MSV ambit, the first seductive number that came her way and again expressing inebriation too, "unnai kaN thEduthE" (1955) continues to "torment" me even today, especially in the charanams. |

Dear Vatshan,
PS portion of Ninathal sirupuvarum from Bhama Vijayam is the best song in the seductive segment. Versatile PS has sufficently demonstrated her capacity in all segments.

Dear Mr. SRS
Your reference to the statement of TMS, indicating that TMS felt the need to be extra careful in singing with PS, lest the latter should outshine him, draws my memory to what Dr.M.Balamuralikrishna said to MSV.
After recording 'thanga ratham vandhadhu' ,MB requested MSV to have the song recorded a second time. His fear was he [MB] had not done his best and that PS has outdone him all through the song. But, MSV assured BM that both had done very well and there is no need at all for another recording. When the song made history later, MSV revealed the information as a token of concern for quality even by reputed singers of the class of Dr.MB.
PS has been the most favourite of all MDs, by her voice and her adaptive octave that captures the listeners for fidelity with the 'on screen' artiste.
Thanks for the opportunity.
Warm regards K.Raman Madurai. _________________ Prof. K. Raman

Dear Mr. SRS,
The two songs that you have chosen appear dramatically different, but, as you have beautifully described, are from the same genre! How contrasting they appear! The way the 'Indru vantha' song has been composed and the manner in which the instruments accompany to enhance the mood of the character, it speaks about the natural versatility of MM. Few more songs of this type or genre have been made by MM with PS, e.g., 'Thedinen vandadhu'. Each one such song a gem by the master.
