Dear friends,
After a gap, I am resuming today. However until my internet connection restores to normal, I may not be able to post many. Hope this problem is solved soon.
There is a debate on MM's compositions .. whether it is on chords or not or somewhat like that... I am not well versed in such intricacies and hence not qualified enough to comment on it.
MSV knows only music and we know only MSV. It's straight.
Mellisai Mannar's compositions have covered almost all occasions in a society. We can henceforth discuss such songs here.
To start with, it will be most appropriate with a song on brother-sister relationship on this raksha bandhan day.
Many of us would immediately recall the songs from Pasa Malar and Annan Oru Koyil.
Besides them, I would cherish this song from Uyira Manama, which is slightly different. Here both brother and sister sing on their family bondage. A very apt song for the occasion.
Watch and listen the memorable song:

Dear Raghavendran,
Welcome back and thanks for the nice song. Another big hit from this movie was "சவாலே சமாளி".
Giving below links to two more superb songs composed by our Master, excellently reflecting the Brother-Sister bond:
1. கண்ணனின் சன்னதியில் from ஒரு கொடியில் இரு மலர்கள்:

2. தாயின் முகம் இங்கு நிழலாடுது தங்கைக்காக :

One of the most outstanding brother-sister songs that can stand up to 'malarndhum malaraadha' is............
What a melifluous tune! What an extraordinary orchestration! And most of all, what an unstoppable flow from the vibration of the first string in the prelude to the end.
An incredible composition
I am referring to
'indha mandraththil oedi varum' from policekaaran magal.
You can literally feel the thendral running through the arena in the interlude that comes after the pallavi.

Can someone analyze this song?
I would particularly request Mr. Vaidhy to give an intricate analysis of the instruments, as he has so marvelously done for Athisaya Ulagam from Gauravam. _________________ P Rengaswami (9381409380)

Friends,
I distinctly remember a fond mention by lyricist Vairamuthu (in the radio many, many years back!) about 'Thangachi sirithale' as one of his first and earliest landmark songs tuned by our MM. I remember him speaking about MM for long that evening. I do not, though, recollect the details, but he categorized this as important, being in the genre of brother-sister type.
In fact, this song, on hearing now, sounds so different from his routine kind of lyrics! But, much more important is the handling of the song by MM. The combo of tabla and dholak gives life to the song, especially at places of returning to the main stanzas (pallavi). MM had given prominence to the synthesizer/keyboards for the background in those years, occupying equal portions like the violin filled orchestra. Even, Malaysia Vasudevan can be heard singing full-throated, and in clear and good pitching! (So different he sounds especially when he sang for MM and in his own compositions!).
Thanks,
Sai Saravanan |

Whatever occasion you name it, Mellisai Mannar has given a song for it. For a popular and traditional occasion like Janmashtami, innumerable numbers will pour out.
The very first comes to one's mind is "Pullangkuzhal kodutha". Kannan Pirandhan Engal kannan pirandhan, kannanai ninaikkadha naalillaiye, to name a few.
To remind, a rare film Vaa Kanna Vaa, has almost all songs dedicated to Lord Krishna. This particular song "Engal Veettil endha naalum Kannan pattu than" will simply take you away.
