Hi Ceeps......San Jose ? I spent most of my time in the Bay area but close to Hayward.
MSV birthday-a? I just attended a composition/ rehearsal session of MSV and his troupe for a function sometime next week. Saw him compose BGM, train the singers etc. Amazing chords flowed out at the bat of an eyelid, truly great experience. An hour passed with the music flowing out, watching him creating music and I did not wish him Thanks to Vaithy and Sabesan for letting me know. Had to leave early to get to work here Guess could have stayed back and continued enjoying myself more. His sense of placement of musical phrasings is still there. If this is what he could create with a handful of instrument players.......... Within an hour, the scores for two songs were composed and rehearsed!!!
pAvamannippu........as the story goes, MSV had ensured no intrusion from AVM Chettiar for all the songs except one. As a goodwill gesture the lesser known 'sAya vEtti thalayila katti' was composed according to Chettiar's taste and wishes. Though the song itself is good on its own it did not touch the popularity levels of the rest and resulted in Chettiar respecting MSV that much more.
athhAn ennathhAn......could have included eppadithhAn mettAithhAn pottAr ....... it pushed the orchestra members while recording into a trance like state out of which they couldn't flip out easily. nammakkumthAn antha uNarvuthhAn....every facet of the song knew when to butt in and when to stop...perfection!!! Remove the lyrics from your mind and hum the tune alone, it does something to you......The tone with which the charanam starts....., the violin/accordian phrases...et all. |

Shri.MSV,
Please don't think of me as weird! No musical I can hear without your influence anymore..... Everything about MUSIC has been done first, better & beautifully, done to perfection with ease!
Everytime I listen to CHALTE CHALTE.... Kishore kumar's finest from Chalte chalte... more than a decade after your Panaththottam(1963)
that composition always gives me the urge, leads me to Your
MASTER PIECE PESUVADHU KILI..... PANATHTHOTTAM (1963) .
roaring bongos, bewitching strings, harmonium delight with lovely Shri.TMS & P.Susheela delight us for decades with PESUVATHU......
Two Gorgeous people (MGR & Saro) ever dropped on this planet by GOD!

That was a beautiful explanation dear Vinatha for the song "Enakoru Kaadhali...". A pleasant coincidence. Today morning in one of the channels, this song was shown.
This movie has another gem of a song "Marghazhi Paniyil..." by SPB (your lover boy... ) apart from "Paalabishekam seiyyavo unakku..." by PS and PJ.
I watched Poova Thalaiya till the end.
One more good song is the title song by TMS and SG with excellent guitar chorus etc.,
About the SunTV movies:
Idayakkani and Dhavapudhalvan has also got beautiful songs:
1. Inbame undhan per...
2. Thotta idamellam...
3. Ondrum ariyatha penno...
4. One english song by Usha Uthup.
Dhavapudhalvan:
1. Isai kettal puvi asainthadum...
2. Love is fine darline...
3. Kinkini kinkini ena madha kovil maniosai...
4. Ulagin muthal isai tamizh isaye... (This song was sung by a participant in Asianet's Star Singer semi-final in front of our legend and was very much appreciated by all the judges including the legend and he won the best singer 2007 award in the finals.)
ok...
bye...
today my listener's choice is MSV-TKR-PBS combo... _________________ Meendum Santhippom Viraivil...

Every composition of MSV-TKR & P.B.S is a pure delight, Venkat.
I have 3 cds..Expressive melodies by P.b.S, Love duets.. Endrum iniyavai
Very special to me, I quite often run around with them.
This morning I was listening to some Susheela solos.. in the baseball field.
Melodious Nenjathiley nee netru vandhai..... Feels good in that early morning summer breeze!
My spirit was flying high with Serene whistling orchestration & dreamy improvisations from Susheela...
The same movie Shanti has SENTHOOR MURUGAN..... Susheela sings with P.B.Sreenivos.
'Naalai varuvaan naayagan endrey nallorgal sonnaradi....'
What a sugam in P.b.S voice! Matchless!
The same movie has Yaar andha nilavu .... pathos in style.Great tune, guitar/piano chords..western music.. dreamy melodic strings section..causal singing by the artist.
I surrender to your love, Shri.MSV!

Yeah, LOVER BOY!
Balu - Talented MUSICAL GENIUS!
Thedivandha Maappillai has an exciting melody VETRI MEEDHU ..... he sings for MGR differently.
I love this song.
Funky orchestration.
Smooth singing.
Lover boy always does justice to the composers!
Musical transforms your senses to the smoky, intoxicated mood, sweetened with chorus vocals,, funky electric guitar strumming, blends your manasu with jazzy touch, groovy wind instruments(trumpets, flute rhythmic gestures & passages), subtile drumming, fashionable tune with Lover boy's sonic gestures catches your soul rt away holds your mood with joyous/lively expression.
PEPPY COMPOSITION!
HARE RAMA.....by LOVER BOY!
PAADU KUYILE PAADU
I think MD is Shri.MSV. Please correct me if I am wrong.
http://www.4shared.com/dir/7865488/4c7c3914/sharing.html
Natural artist with a deep love for music, can emote notes, improvise, touches the listener's soul with his unique, personal touch.
ONE & ONLY LOVER BOY RULES!
Lots of love my dear S.P.B!
Vinatha. |

Vinatha,
Vetri meedhu VV , breezy number ! Mega Star on his toes running around like a teenager . Balu's voice was totally diff. those days no ? mathlab, he was singing on his own voice strengths rather than to the tonal qualities of the hero . I think he started that once singing for Muthuraman ( Samsaram enbadhu ) . And became a default singer once he captured Rajini / Kamal's audio .
Seems music is your soul companion ! Cheers
Now listening to ' Maa Ramanan ' a beautiful Hindolam Bombay Jayashree , Shri Papanasam Sivan's divine song. What a composition ! Great Is there any Song of MSv set to Hindolam ? |

Ippadi kettutteengaley, Balaji!
KARNAN.... mazhai kodukkum..... one of verses is Hindolam... rediculous ragamalika...
Is there a carnatic/hindustani raga, classical prowess(MSV-TKR) did not compose!
UNNIDATHIL ENNAI.... Hindustani Malkauns - Carnatic Hindolam.
hop my friend hop....
Vandha naal mudhal.....Paava mannippu has the tinge of rag Hindolam.
I only hop with raga bhaavam ( I don't know swarams, only krithies & ambience of rag pattern matching, ok vaa!)
Check out Film CHITCHOR , it has an enchanting MALKAUNS aalapana by Shri.Yesudas before the song Gori tera .... like Shri.IR's Sri devi en vaazhvil.... Aalapana.
But from the main composition Gori tera...... my manasu hops to Namma ooru singari.....(Peppy Sudhdha dhanyasi/ Hindustani Pushpatilaka).
Among the Susheela solos I was enjoying yesterday morning .... Azhaikkadhey ninaikkadhey sabhaidhaniley.........is Raga HINDOLAM.
Samaja varagamana...Thyagaraja krithi
Ramanukku mannan mudi.....Arunachala kavirayar.
Manasuloni marmakku....
Recently at dhool Sundar reminded me ‘Manamey muruganin mayil vaaganam....’ Motor sundaram Pillai - CLASSICAL HEAVY WEIGHT. I don’t have this song. Decades ago I heard it at the streets of Trichy. I have only Kaathirundha kangaley.... from this movie in P.B.S collection.
Raagadevan has mentioned kaRNaamrutham kaNNanu kaRNaamrutham .....
A Malayalam work by Shri.MSV on his birthday. Marmaram-1982.
http://www.devaragam.net/vbscript/WimpyPlayer.aspx?var=,Marmaram_Karnamrutham.Mp3|
You can relate this tune to OM NAMACHIVAAYA..... Salangai oli (1984)by Shri.Ilayaraja.
Classical Prowess is not particular about raga scale, his compositions run on ambience of rag, it naturally happens. That’s why no two tunes in any given rag is the same still regular folks can pick up gamaka prayogams.
Take any rag, Bageshri or Pahadi or Mayamalava gowlai or Hameer kalayani or sindhu bhairavi or abheri/bhimpalasi.. he churns out tunes that are polished with ambience of rag.
