I was happy to note that you had brought out fact about the use of the tones of Besame Mucho to suit a Tamil song by The Great MSV without copying it . In the same film the intro to the song "Nenjathai Alli Konjam Tha" fits in very nicely to the song' Lambada" which came in only many years later.I tried it in a clollege culturals and I was satisfied with the effect on the audience. It gave me a chance to explain the Genius of MSV. It just tempts one to think that MSV had vision far ahead and probably some rare gift only to him, to compose songs suitable to any lilt found anywhere in the world. Hope you log into the forum. Would like to hear more from you.

manamE murganin mayilvAganam........you can create several tunes out of the swara sancharams. Hot favorite of mine. namma ooru singAri can make Hindolam blush in shyness..."Oops...nAnA ippadi......"Smile unnidathhil has "Pa" coming in making it "Gopika Vasantham" in parts as far as the scale is concerned.

Went to Sangeetha Saraswathy award ceremony with the likes of Vaithy, Ramki, Sabesan, Mani etc where TK Ramamurthy stole the limelight in the second half of the show with his unabated expression of affection and admiration for MSV. He went on length to talk about how a MSV tune can have several ragas following one another. The example he quoted was 'pArthha gyAbagam illayO' starts with "Pa" making it Natabhairavi. The charanam starts with Gowri Manohari and ends with Sudhha Saveri. He stated all that while V Dakshinamurthy smiled in agreement. MSV as usual bowed his head, ever the recipient of blessings the right way.

Chakravarthy......trivia.......songs 'nenjathhai aLLi konjam' and 'nALam nALAm' had the tunes composed first by MSV within 30 minutes at the request of Sridhar the director. Kannadasan and MSV had been invited to join the shooting camp and Alayar dam and the above 2 songs turned out to be literally "spot" compositions.

Hey Ram,

Great going on the Piano. I listened to one of the greatest of Piano songs.... Paatondru Tharuvar Paaradiyamma from Server Sundaram. I'll tell you it's worth waiting for your write-up for an infinite period considering the lavish orchestration unleashed by MSV. Also I, Vatsan and Sabesan happened to listen to some of the greatest on the other day during the break time of the most recent of recordings we attended. The song Muthuppal Siripallavo from Pookaari was the pick of the day. Another song that I listened to was the song.... Joyful Singapore from Varuvaan Vadivelan.... As usual the MM took me on a wild trip to Malaysia & Singapore without a ticket or a visa!!!!!! You MM..... unnai enni ennai maranden Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

CHEERS
MSV IS MUSIC
VAIDY

Vaidy, We never outgrow JOYFUL SINGAPORE.....Varuvaan vadivelan... What a joyous interludes with trumpet, playful violin & flute and vocal humming with distinct tune variations within a song. I was about to post in usage of violin thread. I remember watching the movie when I was young.
Gondola ski lift ride.... boating...helicopter rides picturisation, end of the song, the fellow fell accidentally into sea...

Server Sundaram pattu again usage of piano in a native folk tune.
love, vinatha.

Balaji, That song is indeed Abheri.

Nagumo....Thyagaraja

Ninnu vinaa....Shyama sastri

singaravelaney.....konjum salangai
vaaraayo vennilavey....missiyamma
Shri.IR's chinnanchiru vayadhil..., poovey poo chooda vaa...

Pallavi of Naadham en jeevaney... kaadhal oviyum is PURE Abheri raga bhavam, from charanam melody IR wanders away from pallavi, I think it is keeravani scale.(Not Keeravani Ragam)

Kannodu kaanbhadhellam... jeans.. ARR

telephone manipol... INDIAN - Fantastic Ragamalika.

Pallavi tele phone mani pol...is pure Ragam Abheri bhavam.

Charanam - 1 - Nee illai endral ....nee illamal ponal.... pure Ragam Anandha bhairavi bhaavam... you can nicely hop to konja naal poru thalaivaa...Deva!

I should not be taking these questions... Smile

SL will do from now on.. Smile

Do we have traces of "Suddha Dhayasi" in "Kannodu Kanbadhellam", apart from Abheri?

Telephone Manipol - Fantastic Ragamalika - agreed.

In charanam..

"Nee Illai Endral" - Anandha Bhairavi, as you mentioned.
"Vellai Nadiye" - Is this "Sankarabharanam"?

Again "Anandha Bhairavi" comes in very next line.

I've always enjoyed "Bharavi" underline in the first interlude flute in "Santhana Thenralai" from "Kandukonden"

Creative ARR!

Another fantastic "Bhairavi" by our Master MSV is from "Adisaya Ragam" - "Apoorva Ragangal". Line: "Oru Puram Paarthaal".

Telephone manipol....INDIAN... by Rahman.

Yes, Ram, the first part of charanam - 1 is absolute ragam Aanandha bhairavi.
anandha bharavi is a janya of shankarabharanam, you encounter the phrases in vellai...
the later portion of the second charanam, my ears pick up Ragam Mohanam ambience. I rely on my ears.. I go with abheri-anandha bhairavi..ends with mohanam ragas for this composition !

-----------------------------------------------------------

Adhisiya Raagam.....STUNNING COMPOSITION!
Only Classical prowess can compose a song of this magnitute with ease!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks Balaji...
enjoy the musicals...
Vinatha.
