Dear Friends,
I have earlier posted some entries to show how MSV entered the 'Mecca' of filmdom -the Gemini studios. Here in I bring another item , even more interesting for the surprise elements. Despite his already familiar disposition to SS Vasan, another session of endurance was thrown open for MSV again. When SS V planned to launch a new movie with the mega star Sivaji Ganesan in a star studded film
[ including Jayalalitha as Sivaji's daughter] Motor Sundaram Pillai, MSV was their option for MD. But, what happened then forms the crux of this write-up. When composing session began SS Vasan introduced another person to MSV and told he would be in the group for composing whenever it happened. Nothing unusual, but to have one more person in the decision-making stage was an added burden, for MSV has had the rigour of working to satisfy 3 persons at a time [ MGR or SIVAJI , KD or Valee, Producer and a Director]. Now another person with none of these roles to decide a matter of prime importance! From what I understood, MSV had to achieve the acceptability from one more. At one stage, SS Vasan told MSV, 'IF YOU HAVE ANY THING TO FINALIZE WITH ME , FIRST GET IT CLEARED BY HIM [the 3rd person introduced now]. True to his docile attributes, MSV nodded in acceptance of this "condition" though he was aware of intricacies of living through such moments. MSV had to toil to make each one come to a common line of agreement. Yet, MM accomplished things to the delight of every one and SS V was happy to accept it. To quote MSV, VASAN said " Sir you are the well known VISU, but you have to satisfy this KOSU." MSV was confused " to satisfy Kosu?" It was a reference by Vasan to Kothamangalam Subbu who was an employee of GEMINI and Ananda vikatan writing in the name of Kalai Mani [whose Thillana Mohanambal was later filmed by AP Nagarajan]. Kosu had also pened 2 songs for Motor S PILLAI. When all these ignominies were served on him, MM was the top notch South Indian MD sought after by every movie banner, major stars, Directors and lyricists.
Yet, he accepted all this and stood rich in dignity as an MD. What one has to pick up is the ability to stay modest on the face of adversity, MM has never irritated any one, though the converse was not always true. By any reckoning, MSV is a model. Our respect for him soars high, more so as we think of his humility and magnificence as an MD unparalleled.
Warm regards Prof.K.Raman , NAVI mUMBAI
