Dear Sri Raghavendran,
Thank you for the information. I found the link for this beautiful song in jointscene. 'Nimirndhu Nil' like 'Selva Magal' and 'Oedum Nadhi' is a flop movie, for which MM has given excellent songs. I give below the link for this beautiful song, (differently penned by Kavignar) for the benefit of others, though I am sure you should be having the link, you being the storehouse of MSV's songs!

Dear Mr. Shankar,
Thanks for bringing to light some of the songs dumped in the attic. There are a couple of hundred songs - mostly of 70's and 80's.
Here is the link for the song from Payanam. I have not been able to get the link for UngaLil oruththi song immediately.

Dear Raghavendran sir,
The selection of some of the songs are taking me back in time! I just saw this posting. The Jolly Abraham song 'Kalyana pen pola' took me back to my school days. I could relive those moments when I heard this song. It was a curious mix of tavil with accordion, intermingled with flute, guitar and the usual humming notes from the third generation humming singer BSS (I feel MM started the humming additions primarily with LRE, continued with BVasanta, and kept it up with BSS). The accordion was a kind of a heavy background for the lighter Jolly, and this attracted! As you have described rightly, this song was not remembered much afterwards. The radios graduated (?) to the tunes of new kids (!) on the block, and messed the good ones. Alas, we slowly started missing Radio Ceylon then, lost it finally.
Many of the songs are really such masterpieces of immemorable artwork. Those who do not have ears, never listen to good MM music. (in hidsight, it is better that MM's music should not be wasted on barren rocks!)

|

Dear friends,
Many of old timers must be fondly remembering the 78 rpm versions of the songs composed by Mellisai Mannar which were different from the film versions. There are many nuance elements in the 78 rpm versions which did not feature in the film versions. Notable among them is the songs from Praptham. Particularly the song Sondham Eppodhum had two versions in 78 rpm itself and the film version was different from these two. Here I am giving below the link for one of the 78 rpm versions. Note how the song starts with a small guitar note, Sushila's humming and at the end the chord for the immersion of boat in the river or water whirlpooling.

For those who might experience difficulty in IE or Google Chrome, they may open it in Firefox which does not have any problem.
Pls let me have your feedback.

Dear Mr.Ragasuda,
Whether this song is a hit or not is immaterial. Just if we see the shear variety of situations MSV was asked to compose is just unbelievable and conceivable by others.
A great find by you of a rare song.

Dear Sirs,
Never thought that this song depicted a scene from mythology! Of course, seeing for the first time...Thanks!
Was this song some sort of a last song sung by PBS in Tamil (that too under MM)? I am not considering the song he sang later days under Manoj-Gyaan. I was being told that he was continuing in Kannada even in late seventies. Please make us understand.
Thanks,
Sai Saravanan |

During the Muththukkulikka Vaareegala program on 13th May 2012, the exquisitive melody 'Alangaaram kalaiyaatha' was played.
There is another beautiful song from this 1976 film 'Rojaavin Rajaa' (Sivaji-Vaanisri) 'Janaganin Magalai.'
Kavignar's lyrics are extremely profound and touching. But what to say of our Master's composition? The use of whistle in a song of this feel is amazing and could have been conceived only by our Creator Extraordinaire!
Since there are some jumps at a couple of places, I am giving the link from Raaga.com also.
